New choir - first rehearsal Wednesday April 11 at 19.00 in Vera Auditorio
A new choir is starting up soon which aims to sing the repertoire of great choral works to complement the excellent local choirs already in existence in the area.
We invite members of existing choirs to extend their musical range and join us on Wednesday evenings .
We will rehearse in the Auditorio Municipal de Vera, an ideal venue for the choir to sing on a stage noted for having “one of the best acoustics in Southern Spain”.
No auditions are required. Just come and join in on the day.
The Director is Barry Jobling with 40 years experience in coaching singers and conducting choral works and operas. Barry trained at the Royal College of Music in London during which time his talent was discovered by the late doyenne of Opera, Else Mayer-Lismann. She invited him to become musical director of the Mayer-Lismann Opera Centre where he acquired a lifelong passion for singers and singing.
In 1985 he was invited to conduct the Nairobi Symphony Orchestra and Choir, which included the African premiere of ‘African Sanctus’ and a performance of ‘Messiah’ with 1,500 voices in aid of worldwide hospices. It was considered locally as one of the most exciting musical events in living memory.
Barry has since performed all over Europe as piano soloist, conductor and singer and is also a popular lecturer on opera.
He now lives in Almeria where he has conducted Mozart’s ‘The Magic Flute’ at the Maestro Padilla theatre to great acclaim, as well as performing in many local concerts.
“Barry’s lives and breathes music. His enthusiasm, unbounded vitality and humour are infectious. He makes it impossible not to sing well!”
