A Spanish fishing trawler has gone down off the island of Hoy. There is dramatic drone footage of the wreck of the Spanish trawler, Genesis, taken by Magnus Budge on 10 October 2026 shows the vessel is now breaking up.
The Genesis stranded beneath the high cliffs near the Old Man of Hoy ten days ago. All 17 crew were airlifted to safety by coastguard helicopter while Stromness RNLI lifeboat stood by.
Debris from the Genesis is now washing up around the coastline. The MCA is asking anyone who finds debris to report it to the Islands Council so it can be recorded and removed, if required.
