If pine trees were steeples of dome and of church,
And wheatears in meadows were folk,
If flowers in homage brought God with his work,
And those who are sleeping awoke.
If birds were the bringers of peace on this earth,
And streams were to carry His word,
How different the world from the stain we endure,
A world where the ethics are blurred.
If pastures were sheets from the Bible,
The scriptures the rivers and trees;
I would choose then to be in the country,
Live life as a man on his knees.
