Valentine’s Night
If fateful bargain now be struck
That I should wait alone,
Than wish one’s lonely life away,
So she can be my own.
Then life is bartered with my tomb,
Bereft then I shall be;
Of bride tonight, no candlelight;
No tinkle laugh for me.
I count the days, the minutes too,
That with my breath do keep,
The beat of steady march to Fate,
So I no longer weep.
Tonight if time be put aside,
Wished away to meet my bride;
Then that would be no bargain struck,
I wait for her; it is my luck?
Instead of faraway tonight,
I barter life alone;
To be with sweetheart wife this eve,
Agree to hours flown;
Give away some part of life,
So I can be with darling wife;
Then Fate consider bargain done;
I chance my life, your wheel has spun.
