Just been in touch with Absolute Satellites about access to satellite TV in Porto Fino. Chris, from Absolute Satellites, has just sent me the following information in an email:

"We have a contract agreed with Proindal (signed last week) to install communal satellite systems within Porto Fino.
We intend to put the 1st dish up during next week.
If you get the people you are dealing with to contact us I would be most grateful , then we can start scheduling connections etc."

So if you are interested in satellite TV in Porto Fino then we suggest that you contact Absolute Satellites. You can get their details from the site below.

http://www.absolute-satellites.com/

If you do contact them please mention Almerimar24 to them as where you found out about them. Thanks.

One other thing we suggest is that if you have not done so already that you read the story on Almerimar24 about satellite TV that we published a link to here a while ago. It tells you more about the possible quality of the satellite signal etc. so you know what quality of reception you might receive.

Guys,

FYI I am just off the phone with Absolute Satellites and got a price for everything for 1 connection and sky box and free to view card it costs 540Euro and if you want more connections it  will be approx 220Euro each.  Was a bit wary as I was told they would have to lay all the cabling but would have thought that been done when the property was built since there are sat connections all over my apartment, however dont know the full details!
So it aint cheap but whilst in Almerimar i was told this type of thing was dear.  However I was also told it shouldnt be over 450 Euro but dont know if that was a reliable source.

Any

I can´t comment on the price as I don´t know of any recent installations. However, I can comment on what it is likely to involve as I was around when some friends had satellite installed in their apartment some time ago.

From personal experience I can tell you that although there may be satellite connections on the wall in your apartment it is unlikely that they are connected anywhere outside your apartment. The builders tend to lay cabling from a point in your apartment close to your front door through conduits inside your apartment to the points on the wall. Sometimes this cabling works and sometime it doesn´t.

In addition to that there are normally empty conduits from somewhere on the roof space to various points in the common areas in the apartment blocks on each floor. In my experience the satellite provider has to find a location for the dish on the roof, install whatever they are using to split the feed in a distribution area if it is a shared feed (depending on how many dishes they have and how many apartments they are trying to feed) then cable from the distribution area down to your apartment through the conduits that were installed at build time for the apartment block. They then have to link up to the cabling in your apartment and check whether the cabling in your apartment is working OK.

I can't comment on individual cases, but I live in a "Proindal" community where the housing for all cables is pre-installed, and the cost here are 550 euros for one box and 250 for any subsequent boxes.
You have to bear in mind though that this is a one-off payment and it does help with rentals to the British community.

When I passed by Porto Fino yesterday I saw Gary and Chris from Absolute Satellites lugging a satellite dish into the building. Guess they have started setting up satellite services for some people in Port Fino.
