Does anyone have any details on the latest position regards the AVE High Speed Train _link_, the development of the Marina at Garrucha or the proposed new commercial centre that Key Mare are advertising near our complex.

Any other info on how the area is likely to develop would also be welcome.

According to the ´free´ papers they are still fighting over exactly where the AVE is going and the stations etc.. will be another few years off yet.

The marina at Garrucha is looking amazing and won´t be long before it is finished, they have knocked down the boat fitters that was opposite the fishing tackle shop and the old boundary wall where the lorries went.  Eventually the lorries will access the dock via an underpass.

Forget the commercial centre, it is KM bull, they will not build a commercial centre whilst the one at Puerto Rey is empty and the one where the Wok is, is also empty.

All the sand etc they pulled out of the sea for the marina at Garrucha has been relocated to the headland between the petrol station at Palomares and Villaricos to form a groyne and breaker so the sand is building up on the beach.  The  beach is also now getting cleaned by the machine that used to just clean the nudey beach so it is now a nice beach to go to.  The Council owned chiringuito (beach bar) is being made ready for opening soon and they have delivered the public toilets and showers so it is all systems go.

When out in April I had heard that there were still "issues" surrounding the station location and even if it was to be built at all now? Garrucha port looked good and all the works around the Town Hall had been removed leaving the area open to pedestrians again. Garrucha and Vera seem to be doing a lot to promote the area this year, so hopefully everything will be hunky dory. I think you would be better off taking a short trip to the commercial centre in Aguilas as it will be a long time before big construction starts again I think.

Plenty going on up the top end though
