Pickpockets in campasol

Hello.

Have just returned from 2 glorious weeks on Condado. Weather Hot & then some. Thank goodness there was a great breaze.

However our holiday was marred by a few disasters on Friday. should have been the 13th & not the 3rd

Though our problems started on the thursday. We were not aware of it at that time.

Ham had gone into Campasol late afternoon on thursday to draw out £200.00 in euros from the bank. He always takes his bag with him that he wears over his shoulder, he then went into the supermarket for a few things, putting his wallet back after payment.

Friday he needed his wallet for some thing & then found out it was missing.

i wont bore you with the details  but we immediatly cancelled his cards. and reported it to the police.& that folks is another story.On returning home yesterday we found a message from one of his card companies to say an attempt had been made to use his card on thursday evening ( we were not aware it was missing at that point) but the card company had  refused autherisation.

We are of the opinion that he may have been followed from the bank or watched in the supermarket.

Where we believe the snatch was made. It must have been very quick & Ham had not felt a thing even though they must have had to open the zip of his bag first & even closed it again afterwards. How quick was that ?????.

Campasol is experiencing a large number of break ins at the moment too.

So please Please do be very careful.

Friday ended with Ham attempting to lift a heavy box up on the shelf in the wardrobe. sliping of the bed that he was standing on.

hitting the sliding door causing it to fall off its rail.Tipping the bedside cabinette over & chipping the side & top. Breaking  the bedside lamp & badly spraining his ankle. Having helped him up we sat him on the edge of the bed  & one of the underneath rails  snapped & we will now need someone to solder it backon. Then to cap it off. he found that £200.00 english pounds that was in another wallet was also missing.

After what was a very horrible day found me falling onto the bed i was sharing in the other bedroom, only for a rung to snap off that one too.

Still as my mom  always said no matter how bad things seem. there  will unfortunatly, be some one a dam site worse of than you  

However dispite all of that we had a great time & met & made some new friends & managed to catch up with some old friends too

Sorry to hear of your bad luck... Must have been very distressing for you both!  Never heard of a pickpocket actually zipping a bag back up after the deed though !!

What horrible luck Jan!!

What we need are cashpoints in the Foro, that would reduce the risk of pickpockets in the area. (That's if the security are doing their job)!!

Yes I agree a cash point on condado would be great.

I forgot to mention that security on the gates is greatly improved. We were stopped every time we went back onto condado  with checks made re  name Jardin number & apartment number.

We witnessed one lady being made to open the boot of her car & give what looked like a lot of paperwork. this was at about 8am on the morning of our departure.

As for the zip of Hams bag being closed again

Yes thats something we would never have expected to happen & I guess that is why we were not allerted to any problems until the next day.

It appears these people are getting braver as time goes on

What a day Jan... also be aware that a woman was flagged down in Camposol this week and asked directions, before she knew it her bag had been snatched and they took off.

If you have to go to Camposol, be on your guard. Lock your car and be aware of everyone around you. It's a shame but this happens alot on Camposol which is why we prefer to pay a little more and stay on our site or go to Saladillo just 100yds past Camposol, food and drink are the same prices, try and go to the cashpoint in Alhama, it is a safe city and there are plenty of banks and about the same distance from Camposol.

Saladillo is a bar/resturant just past Camposol on the way to Mazarron, we had an excellent meal there last time over.

They put on a Horse/Flamenco dance show Sunday lunchtimes that definately worth a visit.

Can also recommend Saladillo for the Sunday lunch and show. Booking is advisable and can be made for either 12.30 or 4 pm

We too went there during our last visit (2 weeks ago ) & took friends with us.

We were all bitterly disapointed, a number of items on the menu were not available.

Two of us had Salmon which we found dry & over cooked . Much nicer in the Surgery.

our friend  who is a great lover of sea food had sea bass & she sent it back.. In her woreds it was "Narsty "

only Ham was happy, he had pork. but then he will eat anything.

I asked if they had chocolate ice cream & was served vanila vienetta, which has a small amount of chocolate.

 the rest had tiramasu ( not sure how you spell it )  & I`m not sure they new how to make it. as it was just layers of sponge & little or no alcahol  

So I supose it may depend on who is cooking  at that time.

we did speak to others on Condado afterwards & comments were mixed.

Really sorry to hear about your unfortunate incident(s), that really does put a damper on things for a while.

On the subject of security at CDA, we stayed at La Torre last week but went over to CDA a couple of times driving in and out of various security points on the complex and not once did I even have to stop. The barriers were raised before I even reached them..!!  The only place I was stopped was at the entrance to La Isla which I was gutted about as I was hoping to try and get a sneak view inside our place but they guy there wasn't having any of it.

I must say security at La Torre was good. I was asked a couple of times to open the boot on my car and the mobile security patrols were very visible.

Strange isnt it that security is either good or none existant.

Pity it cannot be great all of the time.

I must admit we were never asked to open the boot of our hire car even on the day we left &  one case was on the back seat for all to see.

We too tried to get a closer look at la isla as we had spoken to someone who had walked around late the previous evening & were very impresed but like you we were stopped. 

when we chose our apartment there was no mention of La isla  & no brochures etc to browse through. If there had beed I think we would have held on & put our deposite on an apartment there instead. 

However we are more than happy with our apartment & eveyone  from the UK, Spain & scandinavia  on Jardin 5  have been very nice & friendly. 

just wish I was still there.
