Hi to my neighbours and all those in Los Naranjos.

My apartment is as how it was since my last visit at completion in Nov 08. I hope to go over soon to begin the process of fitting out and furnishing so I would be  really grateful if someone could assist me in supplying detailed information in relation to this process. The following are items that spring to mind but any other info will be appreciated.

Electrical- Number and type of light fittings (recessed or surfaced mounted ceiling /wall lights) that best suit. Appliances (sizes and color to best suit) Bathroom extractor, Outside lights type and colour

Furnishing- Ok beds I can manage but whats the best type ( those with or without headboards- any other considerations). I don't want to clutter the bedrooms of living/ dining room so what items are needed. (bedside cabinets, Dining table and chairs, tv cabinet or wall mounted, sofa or bed seatee. and other seating Low maintenance outside furniture and any other cosiderations.

Others-  Blinds sizes and best type,  Someone I think mentioned about building/making an outdoor storage space for personal items, how much space does it take up how does it look, Some mentioned a 'pergola awning'/fabric drape it is recommened and can it be brought over from the uk.

Anything best brought over in the suitcase, I can ditch clothing for a case full of items.

Anything but absolutely anything else i need to know.

Pics of layout and completed apartments would be greatly appreciated and would be of tremendous help.

Muchas gracias a mis amigos

Hi All

I would like to thank eveyone for their posts, photos and PMs but perhaps I should have said that as and electrician by trade and running a sucessful  building business  for some 25 years i would plan to fit out and carry out all the works myself.

I plan to go over early August to get everything completed so any info on extractors, lights and furniture suppliers etc would be greatly appreciated as I will bring over tools and any equiptment/fittings/ducting etc thats necessary to complete. I know That through trial and tribulation many would do things differently or make purchases from different suppliers and I would like to learn from these experiences. So all photos info and advise would be great.

My address is arthurrafferty@hotmail.co.uk . come on  feed me.

Hi Raff,

We are in Penthouses Block 2 and are going over tomorrow and we can't wait.

You're right, everybody will do things differently, and some people will look back and wish they had done things differently. You are at a great advantage already being in the building trade.

I suppose the speed at which you furnish your apartment depends on whether you want to rent it out or not. We don't rent ours and when we vcompleted in Feb we said that we wouldn't get stressed about it but would take things slowly and envisaged taking about a year to get sorted. In fact after this visit we will be more or less sorted except for a coffee table, rugs, and then the nik naks. We started with the basics, beds and white goods and then went on from there buying in order of priority.

I had a small notebook and carried it with me everywhere, here and in Spain and whenever I thought of anything or saw something in the shops I jotted it down in this book. It was really invaluable and saved me so much time, we kept all the measurements there as well.

We have a really good keyholder (Fairways) who are brill. Not only will they look after our apartment and do any jobs that are necessary, they will also source any furniture we want but can't find. Mark also got  and fitted our light fittings for us.

We found DFS in SAn Javier excellent, both in terms of selection of furniture and customer service. We deal with Mike Ward who has been excellent.

We got our "zip" beds for the main bedroom, so they can be suoerkingsize beds or single and our keyholder Tracy got us some headboards that attach to the wall.

Ikea in Murcia has been good too for some things, especially a cupboard which fits into the wadrobes (Malm range).

To be quite honest we brought a lot of things over from the UK, even a dinner service and some glasses we liked, cushions, bedding, towels, kitchen stuff even our kettle, because a) they're cheaper than in Spain at the moment and b) there's a better choice over here. In fact we have four cases stuffed with bits and pieces ready packed for our flight tomorrow. It's a great feeling taking empty cases back to the UK. We think from now on though we'll just need to bring hand luggage.

I think the important thing is not to get stressed, but to enjoy your apartment, and if you're not renting do it slowly and you'll be surprised how quickly it comes together.

Terry and Jill who are residents ahve a fantastic website condadodealhamaservices.com. Thre's loads of info there, they keep us all updated with recent developments. Do visit it.

Oh, and don't forget the notebook!!

Hope to bump into you sometime.

All the best

Cherrie and Nigel

Hi all,

Just as an update, we loaded up a van with everything (beds, electrical goods, lights, table and chairs, leather bed sofa and patio furniture) and had an adventure driving through France and down across Spain. Best thing I could have done in terms of price, convenience and time saved.

Personally I found it difficult to find a parking space for a van in both Murcia and cartagena let alone find stores offering the same quality, variety and price as found at home. Reckoned I saved thousands of euros and shopping at home meant it was hassle free as stores were familiar with bargains to be had and quality assured,

My recommendation to anyone would be to do the same.

The apartment looks great, the golf course looks fantastic and all I want is to get back out again, but unfortunately that looks unlikely untill the new year. Oh well can't have everything.
