Weekly Events bulletin, week ending 9th August

This week is a time of change. The big music festivals are over, bar a few concerts at Espirelia in Lorca, and the emphasis has switched to the theatre, with big festivals in San Javier and Cartagena. Whilst most of these are in Spanish, there are a few little gems of dance performances tucked away in amongst them which we’ve highlighted for you, as well as the start of the major folk, and flamenco festivals in the region.
There are lots of little events on all over the place, right across sports, music and culture, most of them at night, so don’t fight the heat, sleep in the afternoon and head out to enjoy the evenings with the holiday makers.
 To see the August programme of free guided historical and scenic walks around Mazarron, including the mines, the San Javier Freestyle, running races and activities for the kids and teenagers to enjoy,
What about a concert in romantic Aledo, a folk festival , a choral concert at the foot of a lighthouse or a piano recital in the oldest hotel in Los Alcazares? Or maybe you’d rather pay a special visit to the Cabezo Gordo archaeological site, or go to the hanging of the donkey in Perin…….don’t worry, it’s not a real donkey!

It’s been a bad week in the news, 2 atrocities by ETA which has left 2 policemen dead and the homes of dozens of police families in ruins, more swine flu deaths and the promise of traffic chaos this weekend,
But if you want to just let you hair down and rock the night away, there’s the Electromar festival or the Salinas pop festival or the last of the free Espirelia concerts, so go on , get out there and party the summer nights away…..
