Property tax from Alhama council

When we over on CDA in June we had in our letter box an invoice for me and my wife from Alhama town council for a property tax on the apartment (39.71 euros each) for the period from 4th May 09 to 6th July 09.  We havent paid this nor been back since so i guess there are more waiting for us in our post box.

Does this have to be paid and if so can it be done over the net?

I imagine by now they have probably got a warrant out for our arrest for unpaid taxes!

Any advice would be most helpful.

If I were you I'd hide cause they were looking for you and the missus in October, just stay out the country and use a false passport next time.. Sorry Phil just couldn't resist.  No really in answer to your question, YES this has to be paid and you can pay it at the council buildings in Alhama de Murcia just along the motorway Our solicitor is taking charge of this for us but I am not sure if he has paid ours yet as he keeps saying there is no rush thats its better in our pockets than the councils, he is Spanish so I would expect him to know what he is talking about and hes never let us down yet.

When we received our bill we took it to our bank in Camposol and they set up a payment to the Coucnil.  They also set up a standing order so that it will easier for us to pay it next year.

Think there is small penalty charge if it has not been paid by the due date so you will probably have slightly more to pay now.

That date on the invoice only represents the time window in which you can take it along to your bank and pay it.  We tried to pay ours at the bank when over in August, and the invoice had the same dates.  Bank said they couldnt accept the payment as the invoice period had passed.  You will find that the invoice relates to full year 2009.

To pay it, you need to visit the Town Hall office in Alhama de Murcia where you can either pay by cash as we did, or they will issue another invoice with an open date so you can take it to your bank.   When we paid cash, they gave us another form which we took to our bank, and that is us set up for a direct debit next year now

We were late paying as well.  Our bank told us we had to pay in Alhama because of this.  We did this in Alhama, very easy, and  the council then gave us a form that we handed to our bank so all future taxes will be paid directly from our account.

i would advise everyone to keep a copy of this form as it helps with your income tax calulations when you submit it for 2010.

You will just need to contact ASIREC by email and ask them to sent to you a new form to pay. If you are going to Condado you will just need to go to the bank and pay for it. If not, from England, you can pay directly by bank transfer to the following bank, which is the one for the Town Hall:

IBAN: ES1820430031412081000010
SWIFT: CECAESMM043

Concept: "PAGO IBI" and your NIE number (do not forget to mention this in the transfer). This is the most important thing.

Anyway, I guess when you write to them, they will tell you all the information.

If you intend to make your first payment at your  bank, check that they can actually take the payment before setting off.  Our Spanish bank does not have a contract with Alhama Council, so they couldn't take the payment even at our own branch.

We never got a direct debit form for the tax from the council, does anyone know if it's possible to get one another way? Sounds like it would really be handy for next year.

I never got a direct debit form sent by the Alhama Council either. I just got a bill to be paid for 2009 so I did. I talked to the Alhama Council to ask how to set up a DD for next years and they asked me to sent a fax to them requesting that.  So I did make the form. Then, I thought it will be good for all of you so I post it in several forums.

If you sent this form it will be set up for 2010 onwards, but if did not paid 2009 get in contact with them by email and they will sent you the bill for 2009, which can be paid in a bank in Spain, or by transfer to the Alhama Council account which I also got requested by one of our neigbour which wanted to sent a check, but they told me they do not accept this kind of payment.

We haven't received a bill yet but we were told, by another resident, that it depends on the time of year you completed on your property.  We believe that this year's bill had to be paid by PW as the property developer but that we will be charged from next year.  We haven't had anything through from Alhama Council so we are hoping this is the case.  Unless they expect us to pay even though they haven't sent us a bill, which wouldn't surprise me.
