Just returned from La Canada and am pleased to report that the council have started to tarmac the top road (Bobele area) and were making their way onto the main road (C/Lo Aguirre) when we left on Wednesday.. also some playground (?) areas have been marked out and various building materials are in evidence..... fingers crossed things are at last starting to happen!
Some less happy news is that during our stay, some of the houses right at the bottom of the hill - the ones overlooking the orange/lemon groves, near to Villas Maria II (not on La Canada) - were broken into on Monday evening around 7.30. Building work has started again behind these houses, and the suspicion is that this isn't just a coincidence, as the break-in's happened via a plank of wood from the building site into the windows of the houses. As I understand it, items taken included ladies perfumes and a large flat-screen TV (hoisted out through a window). Let's hope it was a one-off.
I must say, it feels much more secure at La Canada now that the gates are working - there was far less (if any) passing traffic while we were there, and the community spirit was as good as ever, with everyone looking out for each other. Oh, and apart from a couple of cloudy days, the weather was very warm and sunny.. enough to get a bit of a tan.... can't wait to get back!
