              has anyone tried gold car hire? are they any good im getting a cheap price are there hidden extras?

Good cars but watch out for what they charge you!!  Full tank of petrol is about 68-70 euro, whereas other companies charge 45-48 euro.  No refund either on unused ful, but then none of them are doing this anymore.    They also sometimes try and sneak in an upgrade charge of 7 euro a week when your at the desk, so check you paper work before you signand always ask them how much they are charging to your card before they do it.

We used Gold Car, felt ripped off also with the petrol rates. We now use Victoria car hire which we find keenly priced and fuel is reasonable.

Mind to use places like www.quidco.co.uk they can earn you further cash back on some of the hire car search engines which may improve rental prices and offset any rip off fuel costs.

Just to follow up,

We are booked to go out next week so a while back went to Quidco and used the broker carhire3000 to get the 7% cashback. Prices were reasonable after shopping around but higher than when we were out in May which we put down to August holidays.

This week we got our carhire voucher through, would you believe it but carhire3000 have placed my booking with goldcar!  Can't believe I am going to get fuel spanked!

Decided to consider cancelling and book elsewhere and noticed prices have now dropped by quite a lot. Carhire3000 have now changed my booking and downgraded from a fusion to a 4 door clio for £167 including 0 excess. £100 saved will cover the full cost of the spanking and the kiddie car seat. Result.

So in future maybe consider using carhire3000 and then check prices just before you go and rearrange. Not sure if many other car hirer would let you do this.

Beware of F&C rentacar they will add an extra day from the web quote because the return time is later than the collection time for a two hour overlap they wanted an extra 30 euro. i have used them many times in the past the returned car are just left for hours in the car park.

 AVOID

Anyone used Amigo car Hire from Murcia airport, as their quote for mid Sept looks OK for a Fiesta/Focus type car, i.e. ~ €185 for 11 days?

Also, having booked a car, Fusion, through DYS for the same dates, which was done in March, same car, dates etc is currently quoted from DYS at €100 cheaper.
