The following is from todays Wikipedia; “Until 2008 the economy of Spain had been regarded as one of the most dynamic within the EU, attracting significant amounts of foreign investment. Spain's economy had been credited with having avoided the virtual zero growth rate of some of its largest partners in the EU. In fact, the country's economy had created more than half of all the new jobs in the European Union over the five years ending 2005”
With the above in mind and given that the dates, published below in early 2005 in 123PEOPLE, are frequently duplicated in Calidonas own contemporary publications, can anyone explain why what was supposed to have been completed in 2008, was not? It is self evident that the world economy/ slump / recession cannot be blamed, as it was not until late in 2008 that any effects were manifested in Spain. At THE VERY LEAST the hotel should have been constructed by then. Therefore rose tinters give me a valid reason why it was not.

RODA GOLF & BEACH RESORT SIGNS UP DE VERE HOTELS IN THE FIRST HOTEL MANAGEMENT DEAL SIGNED BY THE BRITISH MARQUE OUTSIDE THE BRITISH ISLES
In the report, this space showed a plan of the hotel-Hotel Zona, shopping centre -ZONA COMERCIAL, sports centre - ZONA DEPORTIVA, golf clubhouse - CASA CLUB and parking areas - APARC ZONAS but it would not load
The signing ceremony took place in presence of the Murcian Govt Director of Tourism, in the offices of the Mayor of San Javier, between Lord Daresbury, Chairman of De Vere Group and José Luis Pérez Ros, Chairman of Roda Golf & beach Resorts.
Murcia , 26 th April, 2005- Roda Golf & Beach Resort signed an agreement this morning with De Vere Hotels, under the terms of which the British firm will manage a luxury hotel to be sited within the resort. This is the first time the British company is to manage a hotel outside the British Isles, a clear indication of the interest De Vere has in the project.
The luxury hotel will have about 150 bedrooms, as well as banqueting rooms and a spa. Building will start at the beginning of 2006, with the aim of opening for visitors in the first quarter of 2008. Given De Vere's extensive experience in golf hotels management, the agreement will include the management both of Roda Golf & Beach Resort's golf course (whose Captain, already on board, is Sam Torrance), and the Beach Club, located on the beach at La Manga del Mar Menor.
Regards,
Frank

perhaps people get angry because they were lied to and decieved at point of sale and the developer has not delivered the resort which we were sold and are expected to pay for ...... why pay premium prices for something that does not exist - its just a stupid thing to do ., it woul be nice to enjoy what you were sold not settle for second rate service and facalaties .

Hi All
We brought our apartment on Roda in September 2007, and they were insisting then that the hotel was going to be finished end of 2008 beginning 2009, as we all know this hasn't happened. Nevertheless We love our apatment and the location of Roda Golf. I am more disappointed than my husband, as I was expecting to be able to use the Spa facilities whilst he was out playing golf especially during the winter months. Hopefully one day they will fulfill their promise, untill then I will have to continue using the Thallesia Spa In San Pedro, they charge 12 euro for 2 hours, well worth the journey and the money.
Cheers
Mal Arnold

We agree the Thalassa at San Pedro is good but if you want somewhere nearer there is Punta Calera Spa, I think that is correct, straight down from Roda just past Fitzers and Varazu. Attached to tennis courts and outdoor pool, there are two hydro pools and a number of other water and steam treatments, gym and a cafe. It is more like a council facility with discounts for residents but very good.
Not sure of prices, as we used it last winter and they did some monthly membership deals as well if you are lucky enough to stay that long

isn't everyone bored of dragging this "moan about the lack of facilities" up every month or so? I certainly am.
thanks hugh_man and jimal for letting us know that there are spa's close by. My wife will be pleased.
Perhaps everyone who isn't happy with the lack of facilities should sell up and buy somewhere that has all the facilities.
Oh yeah that'll be Polaris!!!!!

sell up .... now theres a thought with big c post " lost it all " .... unable to find a buyer at 100,000 euros for a roda apartment i wonder how many people would consider selling up even if there were buyers ? you need the facalaties to attract people to the resort and justify the price levels the more people that take the attitude " oh never mind " are playing into calidonas hands all people want is what they paid for is that so wrong ?

Hi ALL,
When I bought my apartment back in 2007 I was told that I would get a 5 star Hotel, Shops bars ect.all on site. I don't think that I am being petty or stupid to think than this should be part of the contract that i bought into.
Regards M

When i bought mine back in 2005 i signed up for exactly the same, but nobody told me that there was going to be a worldwide financial crash a few years later. Hence no hotel.
We have to make the best of what we have, i know we were promised a lot more but its not going to happen for a while.
Our best hope might be the building of the Paramount Theme Park, then Calidona might be tempted to build a hotel.
I'm just grateful our resort isn't like the one down the road where everyone packed up and left.

Hello Shagan,
if you read the first post of this thread, you will understand Calidona were advertising that the hotel would be finished BEFORE the recession started.

Building the hotel might not, in the current situation, be financially a good investment. But surely now there are more people on site the units for the commercial area could be built. I'm sure there is a need for another bar, restaurants, bakers, patisserie etc. I know we have restaurants in LA but on site would be a lot more convenient and certainly an attraction for renters.

I am getting so fed up with moaners - as you can tell from my user name. Like Shagan, I am bored to tears with everyone dragging the "moan about the lack of facilities" up every month or so.
We've lived in Rural Spain for 8 years now and like most people bought off plan on Roda in 2005. We ignored the sales pitch as just that and bought because we wanted to - but yes like everyone esle we thought it was going to be good investment. However, it was obvious as EARLY as 2006 that the crash was on its way. Too many new buildings with too few buyers. Round our pool alone there were 20 still owned by Calidona when we signed in 2007. So how many did they still have on the whole resort that they couldn't sell?
As for building the commercial center now then YES it would be nice. But have you counted how many closed down bars there are or the other businesses that are going bust in the area?
Like many people we are extremely frustrated that all we have are unsightly holes where buildings should be; we are fed up that Calidona don't sort out problems; and the build quality is awful in Phase 1. But, Calidona are by no means the worst developer around. Just pick up any local newspaper and see how awful some of the others are that have been taken to court by a whole community because their building has been condemned!
Spain IS starting to move out of the recession - where we live the cranes have moved back in and building work is starting again. No we aren't in a resort - we're in rural Spain in a small Spanish town. One of our Spanish friends works in the building industry and he was laid off last Summer for 2 months and has been on short time ever since, but he's now got full time work again.
As someone else said on another thread, let's have some good news on here for a change please.

"CALIDONA ARE BY NO MEANS THE WORST DEVELOPER AROUND" well thats alright then problem sorted !! ..... sit back do nothing and pay for things that dont exist ... brilliant ... i dont suppose people who spent money with calidona are really interested in other developers !! .... you may also want to consider how many court cases calidona have on there hands both at roda and at corvera ..

It just seems as though this forum is for the doom and gloomers Andy.
Heavens forbid at posting something that's a bit on the useful side.
I myself love Roda and certainly wouldn't change it for anything else.
May i now be shot down in flames for posting something positive

and there i was thinking you were trying to promote your cleaning company ..... heaven forbid !!
i personally think roda has the potential to be one of the best resorts in that area .... however without the facalaties it will never achieve its potential and command the premium price point it s location deserves ..... imho these posts are not doom and gloom but the harsh reality of the situation however unpalatable that might be .
