Paramount Theme Park
JUST RECEIVED THIS FROM COMESKY SITE
Polaris World, Murcia Tourism, every estate agent within 100km of Murcia and a host of other interested parties announced that the corner stone of the Paramount theme park will be laid this May. (The corner stone is the only one being laid right now and that's all they can afford.) They admit that almost 90% of the 400 odd million euro needed to complete the project has not materialised and this little stunt is an attempt to raise interest in the project and perhaps get one of those Russian investors back on board. They all pulled out for some reason, presumably either the project is not viable or more likely they could not deal with the relevant town hall.
The project was originally going to be highly leveraged, a large amount of the money was coming from the Spanish government and local banks in the form of grants and loans but the lack of credit knocks that on the head. Pedro Alberto Cruz, president of the Murcia Institute of Culture, who has the unenviable job of actually seeing this place finished, said last week that the project was "past the point of no return". If he is right, we're all in for a big payday. They say that the doors of the park will open for business in 2015. Also, they predict that pigs may well be flying by then - have they been to the new Corvera airport? (opening date - Spring 2007!!!!).

Willie, can you zoom me in to the 'COMESKY' site - the only thing I can find is in Chinese! Who are the 'they' that you refer to?
Timescales in Spain, no such thing and anybody with any sense will realise that this project will take many years to materialise and I doubt that investors will come forward whilst Spain seems to be knocking Greece of the top of the austerity league table just now. However, it is nice to maintain the dream to keep us all going.
You have obviously been recruited into Darren's half empty club. JF

Pedro Alberto Cruz actually borrowed 2 Euros from me so he could buy a corner stone from Leroy Merlin.
I am now Paramounts largest investor.

I must admit I have my doubts about the Paramount Theme Park. In the current economic climate, it will be a major accomplishment to raise the needed capital to finnish the project according to plan. Getting international investors to put their money in spannish projects of this size is a long shot at the moment. And many stating they are ready to invest, is not in the position to do so when it's time to "show the cash".
But I would not pay to much attention to what a realestate agent on the Costa Brava has to say, unless he can state some credible sources.
Meanwhile I'm more than happy with what we already have at Condado. More and more people are moving in, things are also progressing at Al Kasar. If we keep the resort in good shape, looking clean and tidy, the resort will slowly be sold out with or without Paramount.
Looking forward to my next visit (in May),
Stein V.
