We let our flat in Las Dunas to an apparently nice young Spanish couple with, at the time, an 18 month old child. We spent time, money and effort making the flat attractive and generally a good place to come home to. We got the flat back on March 11th almost a wreck; it was heartbreaking and horrifying.

I believe that we have been scammed in that as soon as utilities, i.e. water, became payable they handed in their notice. Clearly other utilities would be payable soon and this was the signal to leave. I believe that they will move into another similar property and enjoy "builders water and electricity" until that dries up and move on again,  leaving devastation in their wake.

Beware, that's all I can say,

Nick

Hola

Not quite in the same vein, but we have a young Spanish couple as neighbours on the ground floor.  Their front patio area is continually full of rubbish, ie bags of rotten food, building rubble, old ladders and all manner of flotsam and jetsam.  We stayed for over a month and it was never removed !! They have an old peugot van that leaks oil all over the road and they continually park outside out apt. never theirs.  It has all become very unsightly, it was reported to Gesisur but  don't  think much will come of it.  What is the matter with these young people, they just do not seem to have any responsibility for their actions and a couldn't care less attitude.  To make matters worse they even have a dog that barks day and all night, and which is left on its own most of the day.  The one consolation is that we only use it as a holiday home!!!  We were thinking of renting our apt but after your experience we will definitely not be doing so.

I think the thing about lettings is that you only get to hear about the ones that go wrong! It is human nature (or is it just  British nature?) to tell everyone when things are bad but not tell anyone when things are good! In reality very few lets go wrong and the majority of tenants are nice, well behaved people who respect the property they are renting(I know I used to be one!). I can fully understand people being nervous about letting their property but you dont gain anything without their being a risk, no matter how small. I have friends who have rented their properties for years and had no problems, but there is always the chance you will get a bad tenant. I wouldn't be put off by this person's experience. Some people desperately need the rental income to cover their mortgages and they should not think that this is the way it always ends.

Hi

I agree with Sunshine64.

We have two properties let out on a long term let on the complex. We are reassured that the properties are both being looked after by Oasis Properties. I feel so confident I don't even think about them.

I would recommend Clint and Simone at Oasis Propertys to anyone.

We too let our apartment through Oasis Properties, and have never had any problems. We only do holiday lets, though, rather than long-term lets. It seems holiday lets are a better option if you want to keep your apartment in good shape, as it's regularly inspected and cleaned after each let. The downside is you don't get a regular income stream. We've noticed lettings are down a bit this year, perhaps due to the number of new apartments that have become available. For us that's not a big problem -we're looking on the lettings as a a subsidy for our own holiday place rather than as a return on investment - for us, keeping the place nice is the main thing.
