dickmanns car hire

Has anybody used dickmanns car hire recently ,  I heard that last year they were ripping people off for fuel supplements

I used them, not too bad a rip off on fuel but had 3 charges applied to my credit card in the following months of hire for no reason - I complained to my CC company and had them refunded but I will not use Dickmans again, they are real chancers!!

I have used them too and will never again.

It took nothing but trouble and over a month to get my €300 deposit back from them just because I wouldn't take up their rip-off excess insurance so advise you to stay clear of their infamous caravan office in Murcia airport carpark.

I've used Goldcar and Centauro who have both been OK over the past 6 weeks but I suppose it's all to do with how long you want the vehicle for and what type of vehicle you want to hire.

I used them back in October and was worried. We had our own excess insurance and they took 300euro deposit. The car we were given was a ford focus which had a few scrathes etc, so I took photos on my phone and returned to the caravan so the lady could mark the faults on the agreement.. We received the deposit back after around 10days after returning home. My advise is check the car for faults and report it before you take the car away with photo evidence. Was overcharged on fuel definetly.

Still owe me money, steer well clearrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Rip off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  they charge VAT on fuel which already has the VAT included!!

Hi all, we used them last year ripped off for fuel and they took 300 Euros off my credit card for damage to the car that we pointed out to them before we had taken the car.We had all the faults recorded on the paper work by them .To get my money back i went to my bank told them what had happened they credited us the money and told me that the would chase them up for the money.Will not use them again

Same bad experiences for us... Changing to Goldcar: Wise move!

Hello we used Dickmann at Alicante Airport booked through EOS in November last year and they were fine. We were taken by the waiting mini bus about 5 minutes to the depot. Car was a Chevrolet . not bad but a bit flat / lacking in power , petrol as well. They took a deposit because I refused extra cover. I inspected the car and took photos of any minor scratches. yes the fuel is a rip off  price but at least I got a full tank .. took it back and the deposit went back on my card no issues. I think its the luck of the draw and depends how busy they are when you arrive time of year etc.

By the way not like "Goldcar at Mercia airport" who have massive queues if flights clash while the "casual staff who have no urgency".. hard sell extras. ( Booked in the UK  though rentalcar.com. UK of manchester )... dont touch them unless you want to join the biggest queue worst of all  Goldcar "fill" the tank until the last digit on fuel engage and wip out the filler  . You could probably still get 10 liters in / ?? . We arrived at Camposol and were down to 3/4 of a tank in our Goldcar Car and airport is only 40 miles away. ?

Fact is they all rip you off....

Goldcar (as well as the others at Murcia) may have long queues, slow staff (it is Spain), and a short change on a fill up but they are way better than our experience of Dickmanns.. 

Dickmanns took hundreds of pounds from our credit card - which we eventually got back.

I would rather stand in the queue for 30 minutes thank risk that again, thanks

 Used Dickmans many times over the years but only once last year, all from the van at San Javier and never had a problem.

However i have to say that Avis, out on the road that runs by the airport are my favourite. Always get a decent price, free upgrade with your Avis Preferred Card (free from their own website), quality cars and their fuel policy is full/full. There is a petrol station a few minutes past them so dead easy to fill up and drop off.

On arrival you ring them and they come round in their nice mini-bus to pick you up, have used them numerous times and longest wait for the bus was 10mins after phoning, and they are then quick with the paperwork back in the office.

They also operate the Budget franchise, but beware as that is on a full/empty policy

Like I said wonderingwoman we had a great Car Rental with Dickmanns at Alicante in November  ie 3 months ago, booked through Eye on Spain. But in September 2012 we arrived at Murcia on a Newcastleflight with only hand luggage and had to wait 2 hours. The queue stretched as far as the baggage collection.  I understand " It is Spain" but 2 hours delay is not acceptable while they give the hard sell on extras and dont make any effort to put staff on the meet the inbound flights. If you waited 30 minutes thats acceptable . Of course we can only comment as we find and you relyon the staff who serve you. If we use this site for Rental Deals we will delete GOLDCAR options.

I have always used Dickmanns and never had a problem, last time I used them they did ask for that 300 euro deposit, and it was refunded back within a couple of days, the best bet is when you return the car make sure you get someone to check it and sign it off, and the paperwork is completed before you leave the car. The fuel prices are the same as any of the other "cheap" car hire companies, I used Goldcar once and ended up waiting in a queue for nearly 2 hours, never again, prefer Dickmanns as you are collected and taken to the office and you sort it all out there. Just remember as with all hire companies make sure the car is signed back before you leave, or take out there insurance, and I'm sure they wouldn't bother you with a claim, as it would be more hassle for them.

Dickmans Van Hire, would not recommend

We rented a car at Mercia St Javir early September and seemed to get a good deal through DO YOU DO SPAIN.  When we arrived at the van on the car park that acts as there office we were introduced to the insurance for glass, tyres etc and of course the mandatory full tank of fuel, take full, bring back empty. No refund policy.  Total 197 euro for 11 days.  Not such a cheap deal after all. 

After paying the insurance and fuel monies the car then arrived from some far off corner of the car park.  We had ordered a Golf but a Citroen appeared which was fair enough it was a Golf or similar. The problem was this car looked shabby.  A flat grey colour with no wheel trims and not even cleaned properly. Even Lieutenant Columbo would have turned his nose up at this one. We hid the car at our hotel it was the worst looking car on the car park  The car drove as bad as it looked and at low rev’s was mis firing.  All in all we consider this our worst hire car experience while on holiday.
