Just got back from a 10 day trip to our jardin 5 apartment. Had a fab time but relaxation completely spoilt by a dog in apartment below - a new 'resident' since our last visit. Every morning lie in was spent listening to 1-2 hours solid yapping and it continued sporadically through the day and evening. The dog was obviously left home alone for hours on end every day by the Spanish couple who live there and was just going mad in back yard. Not helped by the kids club activities on tennis courts as seemed to be picking up on their noise and god help us if we opened our back windows, it went ballistic!

It seems ridiculous to me that residents are allowed to keep dogs and seriously annoy their neighbours for hours on end in this way without any reprimand. Yet when my 2 boys aged 4 and 5 wanted to kick a ball about (and we are talking pre-school level of kicking ball gently about 5 yds using soft style ball) on the huge lawned area of jardin 5 they are told off by security. It happened twice.
They couldn't have been annoying anyone much or capable of breaking a window. Seems mad logic to me.

Are there any rules on dogs apart from anti fouling ones? As we rent our apartment out it's very worrying that our renters will not enjoy their stay due to this dog.

Caroline,

I think you have raised a very important issue and I observed the same issue while on holiday last year.  I don’t understand the logic behind keeping dogs in small apartments,  in particular large ones locked up in small areas for long periods as it would be only normal for an animal to get distressed in some fashion and start barking. The best approach right now is to approach the owner first and then the administrator. Normally this type of issue will be get resolved locally once it is brought to the owners attention. In your case since you have left the complex I suggest you contact the administrator and your President formally and ask them to lodge a complaint to the owners as it might be that the owners are unaware of the issue.

If you check the la torre website they are set guidelines for pets on their complex which are worth reviewing. See the link

Regards

Hi Caroline,

We were there on Jardin 5, at the same time. That damn dog woke us up every morning and did us in. I did see you there with your children and did wonder how you could stand it. It just barked and yapped all day.

I am out in June and if the dog is still there then I will have to go to Millenium about it. Please let me know how you get on and I feel the more of us complain about it then something will have to be done.

Helen

The problem is the same in most of the Gardens. On J13 there is an Alsatian that time you walk along the path it goes crazy, you can see the anger, aggressive and dangerous potential the dog has. Before all dog lovers kick off its not the dogs fault I get it, it's the owners but it worries me one day something really serious will happen (as we've seen in the Uk recently) and it will be too late. I've said before and stand by it, in the Interests of the Dogs welfare there is no place on Condado for them. It's just not designed for them. No upset or otherwise intended, I respect everyone's opinion....so don't shout at me...lol

Got to agree with that and I am a dog lover but I know 2 or 3 people out there with dogs and they are well responsible for their dogs it's a minority so how does it get sorted

Ban them! But in the mean time give Milleniun a load of hassle constantly and they will get it sorted. I've said it before CDA is primarily a holiday resort not a housing estate and there is no place for pets of any kind. JF

If a dog is quiet, well looked after and not dangerous then it's not a problem. The dreaded dog is at 515 on Jardin 5, poor thing is put out the back and left all day there. Really not fair to dog or us poor devils listening to its barking.

The big problem we have is that a lot of people buying here have the misconception that this is an extension of there permanent  home, wherever they come from.

NOT SO…..This is a resort,in this case a Golf Resort, with its own rules to comply with. In order to maintain compliance with these rules we have to inform ML,not just hope
that it will not happen again.
ML have done a great job for me when I have had complaints. Please document what is possible to document if not get a witnesses to back you up and inform ML and they
will do all they can to resolve the situation. Please do not hesitate to inform ML in a polite manner…not in an angry fashion.

Do not wait for the "next time" to happen…do it now. To those who believe this is an extension of their permanent home, sorry, but you have to buy privately OUTSIDE a resort.

In the case of this "forum subject" it is in regards to barking dogs.

This is NOT a KENNEL but a GOLF RESORT….Please let us keep it that way.

Hi

I was out until the 9th & also in Jardin 5. I wonder if it was the same dog that I heard. The reason I ask is the one that I heard I thought was in Jardin 7 sounded like a large dog & rather than yap it howled. Not a happy doggy. I did intend to go to find out where it was. Though the howling was a pain it did not happen early in the day I was also concerned that the dog might not have had any water but each time I went out to investigate it shut up.

I know there are many owners who have dogs, yes some have more than one but looking at the size of the apartments I still do not think they are ideal for dogs to live in unless their owners take them out many times a day for exercise

my friends have just bought the apartment under mine and. on their first ever visit they were disappointed by the. constant barking of the aforementioned Alsation on j13. I love dogs but if i am on holiday then this would do my head in too. it is very thoughtless of owners to allow their pets to disturb neighbours.

Sorry to hear the problems you are having on the gardens with barking dogs this is something the resort can do without.
Yes complain to ML but in the end it is a garden problem and for that you have a president who stood to be elected and as a result must now take responsibility for the garden they represent. You should by now all have been contacted by your respective rep so get on to them and insist they deal with the matter.

They wanted the positions so now they must do their job

If they don't remember next election!!!!!!!

Peter.

Great, productive thread. You're right, presidents must take ownership of the issue and drive the complaints to ML if not resolved. Anyone know j13's current president? ....I should know, but would appreciate confirmation.

We were out in Jardine 5 in Feb and the dog in 515 was a pain then. I wrote to ML who promised me they would deal with it . Suggest we all complain to them.

Please do not turn this into a generalised dog hating thread!

I have a small chihuahua cross which I hope to bring over next winter. She is well behaved (barks ocassionally - SHE IS A DOG) and will come with us everywhere whilst we are there. She doesn't like other dogs (THINKS SHE'S HUMAN), friendly but shy, gets her poop picked up, and she certainly knows the command for QUIET!

She is perfectly designed for a smalll apartment and takes quite alot of persuading to do much more than get off our laps, so please do not tell me that an apartment is not suitable for my dog, my dog is more than suited to a small area such as we have in CdA.

However, I think you should report on this dog barking nuisance - what a horrible experience, there is nothing more disturbing (well perhaps a screaming baby or teenagers blasting music - all of which we have heard on CdA). You are there to enjoy your time and the administrators should do something about it. The owners need to be informed regarding how distressed the dog is.

Final notes, all the dog / animal owners onsite who  live/holiday there would be forced to sell property if indeed anything as silly as an an outright ban came into force, this would damage businesses onsite, as well as drive down, already, low prices. Also, I bought this property without any limitations of who I can or cannot have in my apartment (this includes dogs, babies, loud teens, drunken golfers etc etc etc). If we have to start banning things... can we start with banning parents who do not supervise their kids properly?

Rant over.

This thread is about dogs that are left on their own and bark continually for 3-4 hours!!!!! I have read all the threads and not 1 says about hating dogs. I love dogs and have a chocolate Labrador, he does not bark at all though. I'm sure your dog is lovely and you will not leave it alone for 3-4 hours. Think it's a bit silly to bring children into this, I even have 1 of those and he too is impeccably behaved !!!!!!

Hello guys, I am also the proud owner of a dog, mine is a choccy lab. He is in his prime, and also likes to have a good bark. There was an issue last year when winston (my dog) was continually barking through the day at next doors cat. So, what do we do about cats? I believe they are the issue, as they provoke the dogs. Not only that, but on numerous occasions I have witnessed these cats defecate in the pool. So, what will be done about these pesky cats, fellow citizens?
