We have recenlty installed a security device in our apartment and as a consequence it means leaving the electrcity on which we have never done before. We switch everything off and unplug all devices apart from the fridge and the secuirty device but the bills seem inordinately high for the usage.
Is 88 euros for two months (averaging 40 odd euros per month) high considering theres only a fridge and a 12v device running??
And it says 64% is tax and surcharges whats that all about?
Cheers
Jay

Hi Jay, mine appears to be going up every month, just had 61 Euros taken with no usage, get someone to read the meter from today and then cross check in 2 months, I cant imagine you it would cost 28 Euros to run it???
As for add ons i just think they make them up :(

Jay, when a fridge/freezer is on it's last legs (or just old) then it burns some serious juice. Try switching the fridge freezer off for a couple of months as well !!
And why do you need to leave the fridge on?

Just checked our bill. Total euro 76.36, includes 90kWh consumption euro 12.27 (in apartment for 9 days), so euro 64.09 in standing charges and tax. Looking back to previous bill they reduced the consumption rate charge but increased the standing charge rate. OK maybe for residents, not so good for holiday home owners.
Regards,
David

Our bill is 149.23 but we live here. We use tariff noche which is similar to Economy 7 with a day and night rate. The charges on this are just short of 6 Euro bimonthly which is considerably less than the normal tariff. I/we are exceedingly careful with our electricity and am still shocked at the cost of it. We have no aircon at present and haven't used a heater this winter/spring..so this is purely lighting/cooking/tv/water heating/kettle....

E86 for one week in March, but we had to use the aircon on heat mode every night. We have started to leave just the fridge on, as our last one burnt out, and we we advised that this was due in part to switching it on and off each time someone used the apartment. How do you change tariff?

I'm all in favour of cutting costs, but are these bills really so bad? We all (non-residents) seem to be paying broadly the same. The bills are not solely for the time we are in residence, there is a standing charge around 62€ /2months, call it 1€ /day whether power is used or not. The rest of the bill is for electricity used, and that seems to work out about 2€ a day. I don't think that is unreasonable. But if someone knows a cheaper supplier or tariff for non-residents, then great. Also does anyone know (not just think) if it is cheaper to leave F/F on or off? I suppose it depends how often we visit.
