We are coming over to Roda next fri 9th -20th. We have two children, 4 & 2. Just wondered if there is anything happening in the area around then? Will the train by the square be running? when does the fair start? We are hiring a car & planning to go to Alicante one day but wasn't sure if there is anything happening in the local area or if we are abit early for the 'touristy' things.
Thanks

Not been, but this looks quite good for the kids.

Terra Natura (Murcia Zoo) in Murcia is a good trip out for the little ones as is Rio Safari up near Elche/Santa Pola. Whilst Terra Natura is closer, I'd say that Rio Safari is probably slightly more suited towards younger children. Zenia Boulevard as well as the airports often have flyers with discount codes for Rio Safari.

Also Zenia Boulevard (if you want to take in a bit of shopping) has quite a large kid's play area with soft play and mini carousels etc.

Terra Natura has a water park attached, but that only opens for high season from June to start of Sept. There is also Aquapolis at Torrevieja, but again that is only open high season.

Of course, don't forget the lovely beaches and water of the Mar Menor - hours of beach fun for the children (who seem to be oblivious to slightly chilly waters - although it should be warming up nicely by then).

If you drive up to Lo Pagan you have the benefit of both the Mar Menor and the Med and a good walk out on the 'promenade' which is beautiful on a sunny late Spring day - you can have a go at playing with covering yourselves with the mud there or drive out to the wilder beaches and go flamingo spotting!

Cartegena has the tourist boat which takes trips out and around the harbour and it's good fun to see if you can get little ones to find a 'Roman Soldier' in Cartagena.

Hope some of that helps - enjoy your holiday

Hi gavclaire

"Will the train by the square be running? when does the fair start?"

Unfortunately the train only runs in high season and I don't think the fair arrives until July either.

If you are hiring a car to go to Alicante - try to visit the castle. The views from there are amazing.

Kids under 6 are free and it's only €3 for adults. There are guided tours too - but only in the mornings.
It's fairly easy to find - You get there by going up a lift through the rock (which in itself is fantastic) and the lift entrance is on the sea-front heading North from the Marina (about 5-10 minute walk).

There is a guided tour of the old mines at La Union - just off the motorway on the way to Cartagena. Not been there but told it's very interseting.

Clients went to something in Cartagena - a medieval battle re-actment I think - that they said was fantastic where they also flew birds of prey. Have a feeling it is only high season though.
Plus there's the Roman amphitheatre and museum which is amazing. And lots more historical stuff too (if that's not too boring for little ones).

Regarding the water parks - as Wibbly siad both are only open in hight season. But for future reference, Aquapolis at Torrevieja has very limited things for the under 6's. The fun is mostly designed for older kids. Terra Natura is much better for the smaller ones.

Hope this adds another dimension for some things to do.
