Hi,
we have a 2 bedroomed apartment, mostly unused. Signed up to online billing with Iberdrola recently. Pay about €50+ every 2 months for an empty apartment. This has doubled in the last few years......I see IVA tax % rate has increased so that would be part of it but kw cost has more than doubled. Our contract capacity is and was 5.75kW. Our latest invoice is 5.75 x days x 0.118874 €/kw, in 2010 it was x 0.044 €/kw.
Has anyone got a cheaper rate with Iberdrola? Or switched, if you are able to change provider?

Just raised exactly the same issue via Facebook and was advised to look at Iberswitch .... there is a half yearly fee but they seem to think they can save us money since they use suppliers with lower fixed charges

Could you cope with tariff Noche...bimonthly charges of just over 5 Euro...similar to economy 7 with a daytime and night time rate....night time in summer is 2300-1300 and is approx 5 c per unit....daytaime rate is approx 20 cents...normal metres are approx 15 c 24 hours a day... You can also look at your usage and reduce the amount of electricity which flows to your home, waiting to be used...which reduces your bill.
We use our washing machine, water heater etc only in the cheap part of the day.
There is a Facebook group called Preguntas y Mas based in Camposol...if memory serves me right Iberswitch does not get the best of reports.
hope this helps,

Hi there Tinkers,
I have recently submitted the paperwork to switch to the Night/Day tarrif. Can you advise roughly how long this takes to change you over, and how you know when you have been moved onto the new conditions other than waiting for the next bill to show it ? I believe that there is a change over of a meter involved also ?
Dolphins,
In response to your comment, I think we have all noticed how much we pay for 'nil usage' with these standing charges and I don't think thre is much we can do about it. It is just a way of extracting more money out of us that we have absolutly no control over. I am not aware of any comparison sites like what we would use in the UK, but lets face it those are pretty confusing anyway so could you imagine trying to get a grip on a Spanish version.
Like you, we don't really use apartment enough times to be able to level out these charges in with electricity use so it then becomes part of the cost of your stay.
Regards,

Think we had an email from Iberdrola with the final bill on the old tariff within a week of going to Iberdrola down in the Port and switching tariffs. Not sure if they changed the metre as such but if not they'd have modified it - they can access it themselves anyway so no need for us or Mileniun to be present.

Where is Iberdrola near to CDA and do they speak good English?
We're coming over tomorrow and might be worth a try before commiting to Iberswitch

Iberdrola in Puerto de Mazarron is I think the closest that speak reasonable English and they are inside the Serrano Electrical shop where Av Tierno Galvan joins Av Dr Meca (it's on a junction just before the roundabout where Arbol supermarket is - assuming you're coming into the Port from Lidl etc). Think they close around about 2pm.
