Just back from a visit last week. We actually stayed at Condado de Alhama which is a few km up the motorway but visited Camposol out of interest and loved it. It has so much more character than Condado and a lot more facilities in terms of restaurants, shops etc (the shop known as the Chino is AMAZING and sells everything!). All the shops speak English as well as Spanish and several other languages.
We too had heard the bad press about Camposol which was partly why we wanted to check it out as there seemed to be so many bargain properties on the market there and many advertised as "Awaiting Final Paperwork". We were encouraged by one agent not to be put off by this - but another agent said they wouldn't touch them as there is so much uncertainty around them. Apparently they are still registered in the name of MASA the builders who owe a significant amount to the taxman etc which is why the government won't release the deeds until the debts are cleared.
We did see about 6 properties which had suffered bad subsistance but out of 3,000 that's not significant.
