Being locked out of apartment

Is there any procedure to get back into your apartment if you've accidentally closed the door behind you and you have left the key inside or do you have to take your own precausions?

This has not happened Yet! but I don't want to have to figure it out if or when it does.

Has anyone got any suggestions. Do you know if Security will hold a key for you?

Hi we have a key lock on the patio ,got it from screw fix for twenty pound it is simple to fit and has combination number for lock  regards Graham 

Security are not allowed to hold a key.  Key safes are popular as long as you keep a key in it, not recommended if not around for a length of time though.  Some people have key holders, which you pay a fee for.  If you leave the key in the lock and then shut the door behind you a strong possibility not get back in without a lock smith.

If you leave the key in the door and you have second key you will not be able to unlock the door

If the door isn't double locked they are easy to slip, a sheet of mica or the locksmiths use a special tool to open the doors

If you go out you should ALWAYS double lock the door for security so all of the bolts engage

Having been a keyholder in the past agian this could be an good idea as they make a smaller charge just to hold a key for emergencies or if access is required if you are not around

Not keen on key safes on open balconies, too easy to spot and open
