I thought i would try and put anyone's mind at rest who may be worried about a posting regarding the caterpillars that live in the pine trees near our development. I have it on very good authority that these little chaps do not bite, swarm, infiltrate or invade they are no more irritating to the skin than some English varieties of hairy caterpillars and dogs will only become ill if they eat one which is so unlikely it is not worth considering as animals have far more sense than we probably give them credit for.
On a brighter note we are all aware that Spannish builds are notoriously slow but accept that at the time of purchase, if we look at our development i think it is tremendous and we are very lucky, Nancy, myself and the family cant wait to start enjoying the sun in our own Spanish place and look forward to meeting you all in the future when the sun is hot and the beer is cold.

Thanks for that. Funny how the scaremongering started with someone who had a run in with the builders and moved off site!
I've stayed on site twice, including two weeks over summer, and have found very few problems. This message was last edited by pabowls on 8/28/2007.

Hi there
Thanks for info.
My family and I have just got back having spent 10 days in our quad and we loved it. Yes there are a few things to sort out, yes the development is still a building site, but we are so thrilled with our little house and think the development is wonderful and will be gorgeous when all is done. Especially when we can drive onto the development via the road and not the dirt track. We had use of one of the pools, again fantastic and just think when the 2nd pool is up and running what fantastic views we have.
I enjoyed sitting on my roof at night with aglass of sangria and look forward to doing the same with all our our new neighbours.

Well Folks
Contary to the wrong information given by the reply to my warning off the harm these caterpillars can do. I am just back this evening from the vets in Aspe where I have had to leave my precious little friend Bella due to the fact she licked one of THESE caterpillars and if she survives the night at the very least will lose part of or her whole tongue. As you can imagine I am devastated as I thought bringing her here she would be safer. Yet again I would like to stress not SCAREMONGER anyone who has pets or young children to be VERY careful as the consequences are and can be fatal to pets.

Well in reply to the Caterpillar posting - i am sorry to here about the problems you have had with your pet however the information posted was given to me from a so called "expert" wild life internet site who are based in Spain - i would hope that they are not irresponsible with advice given and this is an unfortunate incident not a common occurrence as we also have a little Jack Russell who like your dog will be as equally inquisitive... clearly more caution than that the so called "experts" advise is required.

Well I have just come back from the vet and Bella is a wee fighter and holding her own. The vet can't give me any guarantees and says as her tongue is so bad with gangerene that she will lose a large chunk of it, If it goes to below a third she will not be able to drink or eat and that is a great worry for me. I am hoping and praying that she will continue to fight the infection and she could still have a good life if she manages to keep half her tongue. I will know the outcome of this in seven to ten days. I don't know when I will get the wee soul home we just have to wait and see how she manages to drink or eat.Today friends have cut down all the cacoons and burned them . Unfortuanately I have taken an adverse reaction myself to the poison that was in the foaming coming from Bella's mouth and will post Bella's progress when I know more.I at no time was intending to scaremonger anyone. It was only friendly advice given to the couple who bought our house as a concerned parent and pet owner. The information regarding the Caterpillars was given to me by the vet at Pets World in San Miguel....who are experts, and the local papers Round Town News and Coastrider have both featured articles recently on this matter which I was hoping others would have read.
