Hi All,
Has anyone managed to find a source of shutter clips ? These are pretty basic and just slide into the sides of the shutters, making them unable to be opened.
Someone has quoted me €8 per clip which seems a bit steep for just a bit of shaped metal and I would have thought the ferreterias would have stocked them but we've been unable to find any.

The last post in the Huerta Nueva bit of the costa almeria site mentions security clips and gives a telephone number. I think they are probably wanting to fit them though so that may be more expensive. But it might be worth having a chat with them.
Best wishes
Linda

They were the people who quoted me €8 each ! They must be buying them from somewhere - our Atlas moving-in rep mentioned them when me completed - said they were sold in most ferreterias !
They don't need fitting as such - you just insert them in the closed shutter from inside.

Hi, hope all are well.
Seem to remember that Don (Bristolboy) was running round to places like Antas in search of these clips in the past. ( Previous Posting )
I think he decided to bring one back to the UK and have them made less expensive over here.
The solution may be with Don, he could be whittling away as I type and do a deal with you.

Don made some of his own thin metal rods with a screw at the end - these slot into the gaps between the shutter sections and you have to drill a hole in the frame in order for it to slide into. I bought a few off Don and tried this but with not much success - drilling is easy - it's trying to align the rod with the hole that's the hard part.
The clips I am talking about (I think - I'm only going on what someone mentioned in passing) are a kind of Y shape which you just wedge the 2 'prongs' into the shutter (not into any part of the frame) and which prevents the shutter from being opened.
Maybe another solution is to attach patio-door locks but not sure how they would attach - anyone tried that?

How about buying one and dashing round to all the ferreterias with it and that might ring a few bells when you ask for 1/2 dozen and show them an example at the same time.
What about Lee the Locksmith can he not get them less expensive or point you in the right direction.
Must be others,
Regards

Dave and Ailsa, I thought that might be the people who quoted 8 euros each!!
Neil fitted patio door locks for me and I has very happy with it. Minimum fuss and he did it while we were out for a meal or something - no mess. It involves drilling through the cente bit of the patio doors, where they overlap when closed, and then just putting a removable bolt through. Very neat - white bolt. Honestly don't know how much we paid though as Neil did a few bits and pieces for us.
Best wishes,
Linda

Hi Linda, you are correct with the central patio door bolts, these are very often a requirement to be fitted by insurance companies also.
We had ours fitted and I cannot hazzard a guess, 20, 30, 40 euros who knows, what price security!
But I think we are talking here, about a device to hold the Persina's in place when they are lowered as a first line security that you would have to get past
before coming across the locked doors and/or windows.
It's growing on me with regard to The Boss

Hi all, I purchased a few sets of the shutter clips that you are talking about from someone who lives on Los Naranjas back in May.
You really need to buy them in pairs one for either end of the shutter. I seem to recall they cost me about 10 - 15 euros per pair. I've also seen an advert for them outside the English Supermarket in Mojacar playa- that was back in July though. Need to be careful if you buy them, whilst they are a quick fix they can be a little tricky to use if you have sliding Mozie blinds as they slot into the gap between the shutter and the shutter frame. This gets partially obscured at one end by the Mozie blinds.
I can confirm that they do work and prevent anyone from sliding the shutters up. As said before a good first line of defence.
