Just back from Roda after having had a few very enjoyable days and rounds of golf. Good news is the course is  looking and playing really well and was very busy and the clubhouse is almost complete. There were over 240 players one day and 200 another 2 days. I had been considering golf rights for a while now but could not make my mind up about them.  Well I now have them and am delighted about it.

On my first day I was trying to get a tee time but none were available until late afternoon both days. However while I was in the proshop I happened to get talking to an owner with golf rights who lives there full time. Next morning  (Golf rights owners have preferential tee times) we played  a round together and discussed the golf rights on the way. He explained very simply the many reasons why he has them. A lot of his points made good sense and he was able to answer all of my questions about Golf Rights. He also made me aware of some other advantages which I had not considered.

The reason for this post is that it is my understanding is that the current offer is about to end and the cost is going up by 3000 euro very soon.So if like me you are thinking about it, it may be helpful to discuss the issue with Roda (Jorge) or if you PM me, I can give you the contact details for the owner (english speaking) who I played golf with and who is living there and who was so helpful.

Glad to hear someone else is taking up the rights as I decided to earlier this year and have paid my deposit but not yet final balance (mainly because i'm frustrated about lack of service on snagging issues) though I know they are not connected.
When I saw Jorge in September I was concerned about the lack of sales but hopefully that will pick up and hopefully will prove to be a good investment as well as having golfing advantages.

One thing I did notice in September was that Roda were allowing almost non golfers on the course and were not asking for handicap certificates, a potentially dodgy issue especially if they want to retain a good reputation.
Don't get me wrong I am not that great myself and certainly not a golf snob but if allowed to get too busy it could get a reputation of being slow and therefore unfavourable.

I think they need to monitor the situation and ensure marshals insist on players moving on.

Do you think your friend would be interested in setting up a Roda Golf Society for owners/guests etc., I know there is one at Mar Menor and they play other courses with discounts as well, a good site to look at is www.golfsoc.com .

I am over in November and very much looking forward to playing in the warm as well as hopefully meeting up with other owners/golfers on a regular basis. what would vbe good is to set up some sort of regular swindle whereby you can get a game and meet other rights holders.

PS Not sure if PM facility is working

Chris

Hi, hope you missed the storms that struck many parts

I have no wish to market the golf rights on behalf of Roda, the best person to talk to is Jorge Fenor on jorge.fenor@rodagolf.com.

In brief, current cost Euros 12000 individual and 17000 family until end 2007
Supposed to be increased to 15/- and 20/- after that but that must depend on demand.

Max 800 rights between 1800 properties

Only for owners at Roda

30% discount on green fees but they currently offer 40% disc till end 2007 poss 2008
The 30% disc also applies to tenants and guests

Preferential tee times between 08.30 & 10.30

Exclusive locker facilities in new clubhouse also can be used by your invited guests.

They are also currently offering Free Voucher for 15 rounds of golf
Free use of manual trolleys
Voucher to purchase 15 round subscriptions (previously allowed only one per year)
30% discount on golf lessons

Available are different subscriptions ranging from monthly, quarterly, annual and 15 rounds

Your decision will obviously depend on how often you are able to use the golf course and makes more sense if there  for long periods as well as possible future investment gains as you will be able to sell the right either separately or with your property.
The right lasts for 25 years and is obviously part of your Spanish Estate

When I researched other areas and more established golf courses on the Costa Blanca individual rights were costing between 20000 and 25000 euros, but of course a lot depends on future demand and ability to keep the course in good shape. I do believe DeVere will want to market a good course once the Hotel is up and running.

Anything further to add Ip?

Anyone else purchased rights?

This pretty much covers what is available when you take up golf rights and I agree that the course is playing really well at the moment.

I understand that the 30% discount to tenants and owners is going to be reduced to 20% in the very near future which will make the 40% that I and other golf rights owners enjoy more worthwhile if we take friends/guests out to play with us.

From my discussions at Roda it is very clear that when the hotel opens the course will be very busy with hotel residents, renters through Roda and golf rights owners and it would appear that there will be very few if any societies or pay and play customers allowed on the course which is good for all owners especially those with golf rights as the course will be very exclusive. There is no question that handicap certificates are already being or will be requested in the very near future as De Vere are very keen to maintain the course to the highest level especially as Roda is the PGA training facility until Corvera is up and running which will be a number of years yet.

The addition of golf rights to a property will probably end up very much like La Manga Club where properties with golf rights are very much sought after and sell a lot quicker than those without.

All in all as hugh man states golf rights represent good value in comparison with what is on offer elsewhere and I firmly believe that you can´t go wrong having them. I have been out in Roda for the past week and was able to walk over onto the course three afternoons without a reservation and enjoy nine holes at my leisure. I also booked several morning tee times and got preferential treatment every time. Five days of golf in great weather at the end of October is hard to beat!
