Good day,

Suddenly my AC/Heater unit started malfunctioning when I called the technicians it took them days to visit our apartment, when they finally did they said there was nothing wrong with it and charged me €68 because the warranty has expired (the units only have a 1 year warranty). We have been living in our apartment for 18 months now and we never had an issue, we called the technician again to report that the unit was still not working, when they arrive this time they discovered that the fan is not working properly and it would have to be changed. Basically we have a useless AC/Heating unit that only lasted 18 months; we now will have it repaired or purchase a new unit depending on the severity of the damage. Has anyone had similar issues with their AC/Heating unit? I was told that the remaining blocks warranty has been postponed due to the completion dates, but because I live in fazes 1 ours was not extended bummer! No one wants to take responsibility for repairing the unit and I will have to pay for the costs I was told it could also be a manufacturer defect but because the warranty has expired there is not much that I can do. I will definitely not take that for an answer and I will continue until I'm able to get a clear answer.

Just thought I would share this with the forum,
Alex

Alex,

Have you seen this thread ?

In summary
a) a number of  owners find that the air con units to be ineffective in very hot weather
b) some Air Con technicians have stated that the Air Con units  are under sized for the apartments.
c) to my knowledge RfY have refused to acknowledge  point b)
d) warranty is only one year

Did you use you Air Con unit a lot?
Have you had a quote for  upgrading it   or just replacing like for like.   We'd be interested to know how much you were quoted.

Paul

Oh dear,DV as well! We purchased from RyF at another development and had simialr experiences. Some A/C units have in fact never worked since completion. If you have 18 trouble free months you are very lucky. RyF will do absolutely nothing. You will spend vast amountys of time money and energy chasing them  and then waiting for a response , They will ask all other owners on your development to lodge their complaints and stil will do nothing. AEA will ask you to e-mail your complaints and still nothing will be done. Finally in perhaps another 12 months. They will say it is the responsibilty of individual owners.

You will be much better of biting the bullet and having a new system installed. The one you have will be the cheapest possible  and will have been badly installed. You may find like we did that the gas in your system is being phased out and has been banned by the EU. Individual types of gas cannnot be mixed with others (a bit like petrol and diesel) and as all the pipework was put in before your celilngs were installed - guess what you will have to have dirty great holes cut in your celings throughout your apartment to install a new one.

The various options are;-

Go to Carrefour and buy some mobile stand alone units - cost about 500 euros each. Pay for a complete new system , cost between 4000 and 7000 euros depending upon the size of your apartment. Abandon the system installed and have a new system of completelty different design with wall mounted units- cost 2500 euros.

I have the numbers of just about every a/c engineer and various companies in the area. If you meed any info please pm me.

There's one more choice.

Do NOTHING.

When in DV last July  and temperatures peak around 37C (if I recall correctly)  I found  the apartment never exceeded 27C by just keeping a through draft.
With the laundry room  window open and the balcony window open it was never uncomfortable at all.
In my block I think we benefit from the aspect.  The balconies are facing   South East and there is no direct sun light after mid-day.  It's very pleasant.

So if my Air Con breaks I am just going to see how it goes without it.  I will think of it as another contribution to my Carbon Cuts.

Looking round the area  this winter I noticed that some apartments in other developments actually face South-West - pleasent in Winter but very hot in Summer.
Those places really will need Air Con.

Of course if you rent out and then probably need to advertise as having Air Con and thus you will  have to keep it maintained.
