Direct Debit Changes
The Comments |
Is it difficult to move direct debits from one bank to another in Spain? Do you need to get the banks to do it or is it the same as in the UK, that you just inform the companies that make the charge on your account? I am leaving BANKINTER as thier charges are going through the roof and moving to BARCLAYS as they now have a no charge account called 'Blue Shoots'. Any of you wonderful people out there got any ideas?

Hi
It is easy to change the bank account details. If it's to change say your electricity, then phone them and just say you want to change the account no. They will do it there and then as long as the name on the bill matches the account holder. I did it the other day and it was not an issue. And any dds you have with Bankinter, just phone them and ask them to canx all of the direct debits. I
I did the same the other day and I phoned Vodaphone and said I want to change the account no. from Santander to Cam bank and it was so quick and simple. You might find it easier to call the companies i.e. Iberdrola, Aguagest etc rather than ask Bankinter, that way they won't get suspicious why you are cancelling all of the dds.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
We changed to Barclays last year as we was fed up with the charges imposed on our Spanish account.
Just gave Barclay's all our direct debit information and they did it all for us and you get interest from Barclay's for paying by direct debit. We have had no problems at all.
Hope this helps.

It is ridiculous the level of bank charges here in Spain. It's bad for individuals and really bad for businesses, as they are even worse!
I go and argue them with the bank and they usually reverse them.
Saying that, I accidentally went overdrawn recently and they didn't charge me for it (I have no overdraft facility). I asked at the bank why and they told me that they never do! Nice.
