Hi Guys,

She is a great help and sends me press releases to help with my magazine articles.
She is called Maureen.
A little info below.......................
CARNIVAL 2008 – PRESS RELEASE
GUARDAMAR GETS DRESSED FOR CARNIVAL
Saturday 2 February marks Carnival time in Guardamar. The town becomes a spectacle of colour and noise as locals in ‘fancy dress’ parade and dance through the streets to music and cheers from the bystanders and wellwishers. The parade begins at the Plaça de Jaume II at 8 p.m. in the evening and continues along the main street, Avinguda del País Valencià towards the town square. – where prizes are awarded for the best individual costume, the best dance routine, the biggest group, the funniest group and the best dressed group.
It’s the children’s turn to impress the locals on Monday, 4 February when we celebrate the Children’s Carnival at 4.30 p.m. in the lower level of the Town Hall.
The Children in their fancy dress leave here and parade around the town - returning to a party of street entertainment and disco music. This is all followed by hot chocolate and ‘mona’ a traditional round sugared cake. The Carnival marks the start of the festivities’ calendar for the town – and as always provides an opportunity for the community to participate in traditional entertainment and celebrations.

Guardamar’s ‘Path of History’ Guided Visits continue throughout the season and have proved to be extremely popular with both residents and holiday makers. The tours are organised by the town’s Tourist Information Office and are offered in English on Fridays and in Spanish on Saturdays.
The tour lasts approximately 2 hours and a short DVD presentation welcomes visitors and introduces them to the town’s history. The tourist train then transports visitors to the various interesting points throughout the town – highlighting the dune reforestation process, the sites and ruins from both the Phoenician and Islamic periods – as well as Mediaeval and Modern Guardamar.
Priced as just 6€ for the journey, it offers good value for money and is a terrific way to see the ‘hidden’ treasures of the town. More information is available from the Guardamar Tourist Information Office in Plaça de la Constitució 7 or by telephone on 96 572 44 88

Whilst over last week my OH & I enjoyed a wonderful couple of hours strolling through Guardamar dunes. We parked in Guardamar car park by Asiatico Chinese restaurant just off main street through town (from Torrevieja side it's just past Halifax bank) & walked towards Alicante end of town along main street till we saw a sign pointing to the right with Las Dunas on it. (I think ) & we walked to the edge of the dunes then followed a road through the pine trees, without taking right or left forks, till we came to the beach. So quiet & hardly a soul about in the hot sun. Those who were there had nestled in the dunes so were hidden from view apart from the top of their beach umbrella showing. We then walked along the water's edge back towards Guardamar & eventually sat on the front on the promenade with cold beers first & then a MDD for 6.90€ at Europa 1. My OH had mussels in spicy tomato sauce for his starter. I had a great tuna salad with grated carrot, sweetcorn & the usual rest. We had flash fried steak with potato wedges for mains & a wonderful choc cake with cream for dessert. Included in price was a drink so a glass of red each to wash it all down completed the meal. We have eaten a few times at different cafes on the promenade & this (for 6.90€ too) was the best. They seem to have realised that they need to be a bit different than the rest to encourage people to try & most importantly to return again & again. We don't want to pay 12€ each at lunchtime personally but just along from Europa is one which does charge that for its MDD & the food looks very inviting there too. Always busy.
Another idea for you, Acapulco. Guess I ought to put this one in restaurants but hey, who wants 25,000 EOS members descending on Europa 1 ?

FROM THE COASTRIDER
Cuisine week presentation in Guardamar
Guardamar’s local residents will be treated to a ‘mouth-watering’ Conference and Presentation on Monday, May 12 at 11am in the town’s Casa de Cultura. The event is organised by Guardamar’s Town Hall and will introduce those with an interest in food – and in Mediterranean cuisine, in particular – to a whole new ‘raft’ of flavours and ideas.
The presentation has been organised to highlight the forthcoming Annual Cuisine Week celebrations from 9 – 15 June, 2008 Guardamar’s Mayor – Marylène Albentosa will co-host the day alongside Antonio Rivera, President of the Guardamar Restaurant Owners Association and Joan- Carles Martí, Head of the Tourist Department in the town who will provide a brief overview of Valencian cuisine – with specific reference to Guardamar.
The event will explain Spanish ‘eating habits’ as well traditional ingredients and delicacies - and will provide an in-depth insight into the ‘world of Mediterranean gastronomy’
The Town’s ‘Cuisine Week’ in June is now into its fourth year and is a prestigious event bringing together food connoisseurs, wine experts and local people to sample and enjoy the culinary delights of Guardamar.
Based on local area produce, a small dried red bell pepper (nyora) and the local king prawn (llagostí), this colourful event is a culmination of creative cuisine in salubrious surroundings.
The week’s ‘starter’ event is an ‘Inaugural Dinner’ at La Saranda restaurant - in the presence of esteemed chef Pepa Romans Miñana, from the award winning ‘Casa Pepa’ restaurant in Ondara (la Marina Alta).
The Guardamar Restaurant Association will then provide a daily ‘mouth-watering’ menu in each of their restaurants. Wine expert, Emiliano García Domene will also be introducing those present to fine wines and flavours at an auspicious wine tasting event on the 12 June - planned as part of the celebrations
A unique week – and one not to be missed by the genuine ‘good food buff’. For more information on the Conference and Presentation on 12 May and to reserve your seat for the event - please contact the Tourist Information Office on 96 572 4488. Any additional information on ‘Cuisine Week’ events and programme can also be obtained from Guardamar’s Tourist Information Office.

Gosh More, you make Guardamar sound a fantastic place to be, makes me almost wish I'd bought there. It's much quieter here in Santiago de la Ribera but there seems to be an increasing number of events taking place now. We can always drive to Guardamar though; we have stopped off there for lunch & keep saying we should really explore the town more thoroughly. We may well do that next week when we come out for our community AGM(another treat in store????) Can't wait to come over, even though it's a warm 72deg here today.
Would you by any chance know of any publications that highlight Santiago de la Ribera/San Javier events?

The Museum visit is priced at only 1€ and offers visitors and locals the chance to see not only the personal items belonging to Mira – but many of the photos and historical content of this important time for Guardamar.
