Hi,

It looks like hubby has finally got a job in Gibraltar (not in writing yet so not sure until Tues) BUT I am now 26 weeks pregnant!! Feeling scared at the prospect of giving birth in Spain.

Anyway, he will be working in Gib but we will be living in Spain. How does the medical side of this work? Regarding private health insurance it looks like I won't be covered for my maternity care/labour as you have to be a member 10 months before you are pregnant.

Any advice would be really appreciated. Many thanks.

Sarah

E 106 covers you for up to 2 years based on your contributions previously but E 109 covers people where the spouse works in 1 country & the family in another . Google either to find out more info. You should be covered under the reciprocal healthcare arrangement.

Hi Guslopez

I'm not so sure about that - this is a very complex area.

I think you have to pay into the Spanish system or else take out private medical insurance unless Gib workers have some type of frontier/border exemption.

However the E106 like you say should cover the wife until such time as she starts working.

But as for the husband I don't know?

People living in Spain but working in Gibraltar are classed as frontier workers and as such, the E106 does cover you in Spain.  No need for private cover or paying in to the spanish system.  I have just got my E106, which I need to take to my local social security office to get stamped.
