Hi Soodmall,

Not my first choice - yes, there are some good restaurants there, but too many are for the tourists and expensive.

My vote goes to Valencia - a truly fabulous city with the combination of beaches, fabulous architecture, large parks, botanical gardens and landscaped areas, lots of state of the art museums etc and amazing restaurants and tapas bars.  But above all it's more Spanish.

Regards

Arthur

No matter how hungry I am, I don't think I could ever eat Barcelona.  A nice plate of Spam goes down well sometimes, though, don't you think?

Roberto, you are such a cynic!  We were in Barcelona for Christmas three years ago, and found out that if we avoided the obvious tourist places there were many good restaurants, which weren't too expensive.  We even found a restaurant offering Menú del Día on Christmas Day!  Do take care on Las Ramblas though, as there are restaurants offering what looks like a good price for Menú del Día, however when checking them out we discovered that wine wasn't included and even the house wine was very expensive!  Not such a bargain as we first thought.

Acer, we also love Valencia and agree that prices are very reasonable plus there is lots to see there.  Have you been to Valencia for Las Fallas?  An amazing event so long as you don't mind loud noises!

Soodmall, I believe that Northern Spain has the best reputation for food, especially around San Sebastián (Donastia) and Bilbao,

Sue

Granada is on our list of places to visit!  We may ask you for advice on which tapas bars are the best!

Barcelona is a great city and we'll definitely be revisiting it; we love the cafe culture and it's certainly a foodies heaven.

We stayed in a typically Spanish hotel called El Jordi and none of the staff spoke English; it was located in a square about 5 minutes walk from Las Ramblas so we had the best of both worlds ;-))

Much as I can appreciate that this is not a totally irrelevant or uninteresting topic - I am happy to be called, and remain, a cynic! I imagine the original poster is more interesed in Chinese food, but is probably quite content to have had his name mentioned twice already. Not that I give a hoot.

Harshly judged Roberto and maybe a little unkind?

Sue: Granada was fabulous. We spent four nights there and enjoyed every single minute of it. Almost all of the bars give 'free tapas' with every drink you buy, so we didn´t actually buy a proper meal while we were there: we trawled the bars and tried all the different tapas that was on offer and believe me, there was a huge variety.

Apart from the food, it´s a very vibrant and interesting city to visit, with loads to see and do. Oh and the local buses are amazing: we bought a bono with gave us entry into the Alhambra and ten bus rides. We stayed in a hotel just by the side of the Alhambra and walked down to the town but got the bus back up (provided it was before 11.30 (I think!) and then the taxis were just as cheap.

Whatever. Do the rest of you, then, actually believe that the original poster is interested in people's opinions of the food in Barcelona, and wasn't just joining the forum and posting in order to plug a website flogging Chinese produce? Maybe it's just me being a bit Scroogey?

I prefer to always give people the benefit of the doubt. In any case, I don´t ever look at their website links!!

To be honest, Roberto, I rarely follow people's links (have you looked at mine?!!!) but once you had mentioned it, I was intrigued and did so.  Nothing about it though to tempt me to buy anything!  We have a good Chinese multiprecio in town and I would buy from there, as I can see what I'm getting and take it back if there are any problems.

I must admit that I thought you had to make a certain number of posts before you could add links to your signature - if not, maybe that is something Justin should consider.  Having said that, if anybody considers a post to be spam, they can report it to Justin.

Sue

PS Bah Humbug!

The signature is not a live link (yet - there's a minimum number of postgs required for that) - but the username is the same as their site name (clue 1) and the other posts made by this new member so far are equally banal (clue 2). Each time someone mentions him / her by name, their online presence increases a tiny bit. Join enough forums and social networks (that have nothing to do with your real interest) and you start to build your visibility to search engines etc.

Do I give a damn? Can I be bothered to report it as spam? No. I just couldn't resist a bit of sarcasm, since the original post was so badly worded (clue 3).

For those who disagree - buen provecho! (or bon profit if you prefer Catalan)

Gibraltar is one of the best places to eat with great restaurants .   Gibraltanean people love their food and a bad restuarant would not last long.   La Linea has some great Tapas bars but the best place in Spain so far for us has been in Cordoba with fabulous tapas.   Whatever you do  - only eat where the locals eat.. Never eat at the tourist eateries.

To check out eating establishments try Trip Advisor  that's how we found our Tapas  bar in Cordoba - would never have found it otherwise and it was packed and still people arriving after 12.00 .

Happy New Year to you all and I can't wait to come to Spain next month .  It''s been too long
