As a general rule I am understanding and happy to pay extra for a menu del dia at a classy restaurant. Awesome surroundings, quality furniture and professional staff don’t come cheap. I regularly take visitors to restaurants that amaze them; not the least the competitive prices. Put simply they expect to pay more because of the classiness, location and high standards.
What intrigues me is that pavement cafés with traffic blasting by a metre away; tacky tin tables, plastics seats, indifferent ‘food’ cooked in a microwave, charge the same and sometimes higher prices. To add insult to injury one is likely to be served by someone in unwashed jeans; wearing trainers and an air of long sufferance. Yet, they seem to do equally well.
