Vodaphone doesn't accept the NIE for smartphone?

Hello,

We went to a Vodaphone shop to get me a Iphone and a monthly contract with Vodaphone. Hubby's company phone is with them so to save money, we want to go to the same provider.

They told us that Vodaphone refuse to give a smartphone with a monthly plan to those with the NIE (paper). Apparently, it is not enough for Vodaphone, it has to be the card....

???

I explained to them the NIE is now on paper, but they don't get it or it is indeed a rule we don't know, don't understand.

Is anyone had this same experience? I will try an other Vodaphone shop tomorrow. I am very mad, they made us fill the form, sign the contract, took our bank account number, made us wait 5 days and they come up with this.

They are telling you a load of crap you do not have to show them the NIE just have to give it verbally

But as you've signed a contract I bet the'll start taking money from your account ! Even though you haven't got a phone !

Are you sure they are asking for an NIE and not DNI? Anybody can obtain an NIE. Presumably they want to see Residence as opposed to mere registration?
