I intend to drive from Yorkshire to San Miguel at the end of October this year and would welcome any feedback as to places we can stay en route that will accept our dog. We are not in a rush and would also appreciate any places of particular interest along the way such as vineyards etc!!!!
Thank You

Oh, the Millau Viaduct is well worth taking the longer route down, if you´re into bridges and that sort of thing.

You could try driving to Portsmouth, get the 2200 ferry , book a dog friendly cabin, spend two nights on board and then drive off the ferry at 0730 at Bilbao, with a day to get to your destination - so only two nights in transit for your dog. Fairly expensive, but you save several nights hotel accomodation a lot of petrol and motorway tolls - sorry no french vineyards on route.

Millau is great as is the whole route. We like the tunnel as the dogs are with us all the time and use Etap Hotels which accept one dog per room. They are not expensive, have a little en suite, double bed and bunk above for up to 12 years old.

Hi Lifeline,
I appreciate your input and wonder if you could give me the route you have used? I don't want to use a ferry where the dog is away from us and will use Etap hotels if that is what you suggest? Any input would be appreciated

hi
we used the cross channel tunnel so our dog was with us in the car, I didnt want to leave her then we used the Campanile hotels which are dog friendly a good price and had excellent restuarants on site.

Brittany ferries Portsmouth to Bilbao have dog friendly cabins so you wouldnt need to be separated from your dog, there are walk and poo areas for dogs onboard.

Hi stoth,
We use the Michelin guide- viamichelin.co.uk which gives km. and time.
and etaphotels.com travelling from Scotland taking one day stopping at Calais Coquelles Tunnel sous la Manche, sometimes stopping at Clermont Ferrand then Perpignan. There are hardly any Etap Hotels in Spain although we did stop one year in Barcelona.
The downside of these groups of hotels is that they are usually in industrial estates but perfectly adequate. We look for ones that are as near to the motorway as possible. Satnav can be very useful.
Booking ahead for at least some of the journey is really worthwhile especially the Tunnel. The time you give does not need to be adhered to rigidly. Anytime we have arrived early we get a place as long as there is space on the trains. Dogs have to be in the back and seen to be tied in some way. Very relaxed and easy!
