Just want to warn people not to book with Dickmanns car hire at Alicante airport.
Just returned from alicante and found that Dickmanns car hire have taken 200 euros from my CC for alleged damage to the car without any notice. They alleged we have left three small cigarette burn marks in the upholstery of the car. We do not smoke and we never saw the marks they have accused us of. We have been in touch with them but they will not respond to any of our correspondance any more. Any advice?
So please don't risk hiring a car from these people.

put a claim in to your credit card company - Dickmanns will then have to prove that they have informed you about the damage and that you have agreed to pay it, if you don't and didn't agree to pay, you stand a good chance of claiming you money back.

I have to say I have used Dickmanns at Alicante for the last couple of years, and have never encountered any problems.
I have always found them to be excellent to deal with. Hope your experience is a one off.
Cheers Joanniemac

surprising as dickmans never check the car when you give it back, and usually the cars have damage any way, I have always used them and have never heard of this before.

Regardless of which hire company we have used in the past on collection of the vehicle we made a thorough examination and took photographs on our mobile phone of any damage or scrapes that we thought may become an issue on returning the vehicle by doing this the date and time is recorded on the phone and shows evidence for future reference.

This company also has started to overcharge on Fuel. We were charged €80 for a tank of fuel on a Micra that can only hold €65 max. Be warned these are rip-off merchants

Note this post is linked to 2011 postings.... so its very old. We have used Dickmanns at Alicante November 2012 and found them no problem at all . The practice of charging a bit over the top for fuel is a policy used by many hire companies ( not just Dickmanns ). To head the post DISGUSTING is well over the top. Dickmanns are ok and at least you get a FULL TANK . Not like Goldcar for example who dont fill the fuel tank to the top..!

I think the point raised was that all of the car hire companies that have the full, empty policy over charge for fuel, they are all the same, the only alternative is to find a company who do full, full, then you don't pay for fuel, but you will pay higher rental charges, if you look back at threads, numerous complaints about goldcar, dickmanns etc, they have got us all ways, or try driving over.

My point is quite clear ( as commented by Andy ) many firms now use full to empty policy. I commented that you should maybe have "raised another title" unless you think "Dickmanns car Hire - is disgusting" which is not the right heading for your trivial complaint .
The ORIGINAL posting will be 4 years old in September Kawa . Thats like me posting I dont like this Labour Government... 4 year ago

The thing some posters seem to forget is the rentals are very cheap & so they have to make their money somewhere. At the end of the day if they are paying staff to take a car to the garage to fill it up someone has to pay for that cost? That is a simple commercial transaction. Yes 15 euros on top of a Micra fill up might be steep but then if you get away from the airport quicker with a full tank then it is a small price worth paying? A bit like the meet & greet's popping up at most airports, it is about convenience. Us certainly with 3 small kids, it is so much easier than lugging everything on & off of transfer buses, waiting in the inevitable UK weather. If you search well enough some of these M & G's are only about £10 or £15 dearer, so a price worth paying. I returned my car to Dickmanns last week and nearly run it out of fuel (own stupid fault) as I couldn't find a garage near the airport? So if you were to pick the car up empty, ask yourself do you want to run it out 'cos you cannot find a garage just after you picked it up? They are providing a service, albeit some parts of it inflated, so if you read the T & C's on DYS website it does tell you about this or it used too. So you makes your choice!!!!

I used Richmond last year the price I got was exceptionally cheap even adding on the extras. The problem wasn't the price but the appallingly service when the car broke down on the way back to the airport. We rang the number on the ccontact and were given another number to ring which had no reply. The original person then would not answer his phone for the next hour and a half. We were stuck on our way to the airport with a car that could do no more than 25 MPH. At got no help at all from dickmans. We arrived very late at the airport but the airport staff were brilliant and rushed us through security and onto the plane with seconds to spare. So to be honest I agree with the heading of this thread.

Obviously should have said Dickmanns - good old predictive text on my phone - should have waited until I was at my computer!

Sorry you got stuck on way to airport . I wonder if other Rental companies would be able to respond any quicker in the same situation.
We hade no problems with Dickmanns and would use them again , chances of breakdown are remote id say.

I had used them a couple times before and to be honest the price (even taken into account all the extras) has always been very good. What really annoyed me was refusal to answer the phone after the 1st time I rang - my wife constantly rung the same number for about an hour with no reply. It was quite apparent they just couldn't be bothered. I wouldn't have minded if they had arranged for a breakdown truck and it didn't get there in time - but the total lack of care was disgusting - exactly as the title of this thread says. Would other car hire firms be better? Who knows unless you have a breakdown you cant tell - but being stranded on the way to the airport is not a great feeling. A 1 1/4 hour drive took us 3 1/2 hours. It was even more annoying as the car was virtually new - but then it was a diesel Vauxhall Corsa and this problem is very common with Corsa's ans Astra's.
