When we sold our house and moved into a new one, we received the Fianza back in a rebate from Sevilliana to our bank account, then when we moved and the new contract was started had to pay the Fianza back again, hopefully the system should work well when we moved again!

I would like to say to everyone that I beat you all. I have just paid 1500 euros for the utilities. This is for builders supply, then the connections. I think I need to speak to other owners when I next go(3 weeks) to find out what everyone else paid. I am sorry to say that I only found this forum a week after I signed, I wish it was the week before. I haven't spoken to my solicitor about this but has anyone ever got any money back? I think I will just be wasting my time.

We have bought in Fase 1 La Recoleta. Our 2 bed, 2 bathroom apartment is now finished and we are just going through the financial process. Builders are charging us euros 1000 for connection of water and electricity. This was a cost we were not expecting and wonder if everybody else was charged this amount. Also can anyone tell is if there is cable TV in the block and what people tend to do for internet connection?
tks

I posted earlier in this thread that to change the name on a contract of an existing supply in our area cost €12. That was the case last time I did it, but I have since discovered that things have changed somewhat. According to Sevillana, to change a contract into your name now, you have to get a boletin which is issued by an authorised electrician who has inspected the installation. (which will inevitably cost far more than €12). Money for old rope if you ask me.
I don't know exactly how much this will cost, and I think it will just lead to people not putting the contract into their name when buying a property. Although I don't think it will be possible to amend payment details without doing so, so I guess they've got you over a barrel. I am in the process of renovating an apartment, including re-wiring, so I will return to this thread with an update as soon as....

Sevillana mentioned a figure of €50, but I don't trust that. I've been quoted €120 by the gang of thieves over the road from me, but my Mexican friend (who will do the re-wire) has a Cuban friend, who apparently I know (!) who will "do" the boletin.....it's all fun 'n' games!

Hi
Just bringing this thread up the ladder as I think it is important for buyers to be aware of this extra cost, I am compleating on an apartment in Almoradi next week and have just recieved an e-mail from my solicitor asking me to bring an extra 900euro to the notary in cash to give to the builder for what he describes as property maintanence, I have since been told this is for connection to the water and electricity.
Why are buyers not told of these charges earlier or why are they not put in our contracts as builders, estate agents and solicitors must know at the outset that this charge would apply
Besides this and a few other costs we were not informed of by anyone in Spain but I knew to ask about becuase of this forum everything has gone well and I am looking forward to going out next week and owning my own home in the sun.
THANK YOU ALL ON EOS FOR YOUR INVALUABLE INFORMATION AND KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
CHEERS

We are now just contracting for Water and Electricity. Can you tell me if there are minimum charges each month or do you just get charged for what you use?
Thanks

There are basic standing charges for both utilities, plus a charge for whatever you use. These standing charges will depend on where you are, what service you have contracted and what equipment (meters etc.) you have to "rent". Many variable factors, in other words.
