Royal Bank of Mortgages
The Comments |
It has been revealed that La Caixa granted Infanta Cristina's husband Iñaki Urdangarín a 5 million euro mortgage in 2004, despite the fact that King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía's son-in-law was only declaring an annual salary of 36,000 euros (a monthly gross salary of 3,000 euros). What's your take on this? Ok I know it happened 8 years ago , but do you think the corruption will ever end?

hmmmmm.... nope. Same the world over for people at the top. The only difference with countries that are percieved as more corrupt is that the corruption is permitted by the authorities to exist at the lower levels of society, and not just amongst themselves. As such in places such as Spain the average citizen is directly confronted with corrupt situations, whereas in - say - Britain, unless you belong to the "better" people you won't directly come accross it - or at least not so often.
As long as politics is plutocratic you will have corruption - and politics has been plutocratic ever since humans first organised themselves into chiefdoms.

Corruption will always exist as long as there are greedy humans. Well that the end of that topic.

Royals always have different rules. The Queen mother left everything to the Queen, and there was no inheritance tax (should have been about £20 million if it had been anyone else). Giving a loan on the basis of a family/s ability to pay does not seem that unreasonable to me.
