Watching UK TV in Spain
The Comments |
Hi everyone
I am a bit late in this discussion and a little worried about the changes in satellites which may impact onto reception in Costa del Sol area. Looking at the coverage maps for the yet to be launched SES satellites we may still get some reception - a separate point which is being discussed elsewhere.
My question for this debate is I have been looking at acquiring an android wireless set top box at about £40 (UK cost) which would connect to the community wifi network and to the TV. This would give me internet access for streaming live and on-demand TV as well as general internet browsing and android apps on the TV. This is, of course, subject to there being enough bandwidth - suggested at 1.5mb minimum for streaming. I have also been looking at signing up with someone like 'filmon' (but there are many others) which would give me access to UK TV at about £5/month - the benefit being a VPN giving an acceptable IP address ( I am a UK TV license holder).
Does anyone have any experience of doing anything similar or can offer any advice.

Hi crackers.
Nice to know I am not alone on the Costa del Sol.
I played with an android box that I purchased here in spain and without very good results.
I just purchased a dedicated set top box from ukexpattv (pm me and I can give you the details) and I have a great selection of the main free to air channels.
I did check my bandwidth first to make sure that I had over 1.2mb available which is their requirement and the system works well and the boss lady can even watch her soaps from last week as they record all programs for viewing later.
Good luck with whatever you decide.
