Tell us all about your area. Spain is a huge country and so diverse and it's great to know about the places where others have started a new life. We live in Manilva on the Costa del Sol. What's great about it is depite being so close to the coast, it's actually quite traditionnal and Spanish. I love going to all the little shops and it has a great little Friday market. So come on, tell us about where you live and what you like/dislike about it.

Hi,
My area is El Pinillo in between Benalmadena and Torremolinos.
The area is fine but tends to be a bit noisy late at night in the summer months, mainly due to Brits renting out in the area. It is 10 mins walk to the Marina and has anumber of supermarkets and shops (all Spanish).
There are a number of Bars and restaurants of which only one is English and the food in the bars is excellent.

I live in Valencia, it is beautiful. I spent a year in a very traditional village where I was made very welcome by the locals, there were a few English already there but they were very integrated, so it was nice to know they were around if you needed them but at the same time could live a very Spanish lifestyle.
I am now on the beach near the City center and here too the people are so welcoming. The port has (and still in progress a little) been totally reformed for the Americas cup, its beautiful. With the City of Sciences developement too Valencia is truly gorgeous, come and see it! no fish and chip shops here! The life style is great, the beach is used all day and all night by families picnic ing and socialising, never see any drunken yobs make a nuisance of themselves.

Sounds like a really nice area raquel.
I live in Vera, Almería and it's a really nice town. There are more and more ex-pats coming to Vera but for the moment they are predominantly in Mojacar about 20 mins away so you still get to experience the Spanish way of life...but unfortunately it's changing :-( Vera is a really nice little town and we have one of the (if not THE) oldest bullrings in Andalucia.

I think I visited Mojacar when I first started looking to buy out here. The whole bull ring and bull fighting thing amazes me. Not entirely sure on the killing aspect but the history and glamour etc is impressionante!

I live in El Pilar, Estepona which is just like Cleethorpes (no offence to anyone from Cleethorpes) on a bad day. Seriously it is quite a nice area. Very cosmopolitan in terms of nationalities - until summer when there is a Brit invasion. Good mix of eateries and bars - fish and chips to Tapas with everything in between. 10 minutes walk from the beach (25 back at the end of the day - 2 hours if you stop at the bars!). Not particularly glitzy and unfortunately (much like a lot of the Costa del Sol) not Spanish enough, but easy striking to San Pedro where I work and Estepona centres which makes up for it. 15 minutes from Puerto Banus which I try to avoid like the plague but satisfies the women in my life when they need a shopping fix!

wehave a place in mojacar and we really like the whole area. In the summer months it can get quite busy but its still mainly spanish, not all brits!
mojacar is beautifull because there is no high rise buildings, everything is low level nothing much more than 3 or 4 floors high and that way you can see the mountains and the sea all in one panorama.

Hi
This is my first venture onto this forum. I have taken early retirement and we are looking at relocating in Spain as soon as we sell here. We have spent time in the Alicante (South) and Murcia area over the past couple of years and feel this is the area we would like to relocate to. I have seen a lot of properties in the
Urb. La Marina,
San Fulgencio. Does anyone have any information on this area, good or bad. Would love to hear from anybody on this topic Regards derek and tina

Hello DerikandTina, welcome to Eye on Spain.
We own in Playa Flamenca, Costa Blanca.
This is a great area for me, it is very flat, no hills to climb and the salt climate is the best in the world for people like me.
I have Osteoarthritis and trouble walking and the World Health Organisation recommends Torreveija and the surrounding areas for it's healthy climate.
Our area is up and coming with new buildings springing up and a planned marina for our immediate beach area. This should see the market price rise and bring lots of business to our area.
August can be very hot here, so if you can't stand the heat, stay out of the Costas!
I have read many things about La Marina and have been there to visit a quad that my Brother considered renting.
Nearby is a stone quarry and the do "blasing" once a week, which can scare the life out of you if you are not prepared!
Also, there is an open rubbish tip, not sure what this is about, but it is HUGE! I think all the areas dustcarts must offload here. If the wind is in the wrong direction, the smell is horrendous! I suggest you look at back copies of some of the Costa Blanca newspapers online, as I have seen lots about petitions residents have got up about various things to do with La Marina.
Try Costa Blanca Online, The Coastrider or About Town News. they also have letters pages where you could ask more questions about La Marina.
Good luck

Hi derekandtina
If you want a beach area Fibby's location is fab, but also take a look just a little further down the coast at Pilar de la Horadada. Lovely town - relatively new town council with good services eg beaches cleaned daily, rubbish collected daily, good health care flat area, cycle paths and lots of parks/open space, good mix of existing and new developments etc. Great beaches and marina at La Torre de la Horadada. Try Richard Rooke at villavalue.com. Richard will look forwhat you want regardless of what's on his books. He will accompany you personally through every stage of the buying process. Good luck with your search! Jane.

Hello there,
After renting for 9 years I finally been able to go for my own apartment, Is in the mountain side of the N-340 at Cabopino, the Urbanization is about 400 mtrs to the sea and with a golf course on the back... i really bought this apartment to "flip" it..... but I had an argument with the lady and came to it for a couple of weeks and never wanted to leave...
I can get mysel walking to the port of Cabopino ( gorgeous) and "crawl back " if necessary and have fantastic stroll with a great view over the sea... Cabopino is really beautiful an tranquil, during the winter time, the sun is a guest in the apt and in summer stays away from home due to covered terrace... and a patch of garden...
I just wish to live here for a long time..... but the mortgage is starting to become heavy on my bony shoulders anyway !! They will not defeat me!!!!!
Juan.
PS: Visit Cabopino, you will not regret it ! It is located 14 kms East of Marbella, so you can find it easily with Google earth or Google maps ( put it on "Hibrids" so you can see the map superimposed with the aereal pics ).
So at a glance, that´s my area...

There's an alternative nudist beach between Los Alamos (Torremolinos) and Malaga airport. Maybe Smiley knows it? Not for the faint hearted.
