Can anybody suggest how I can get my house valued for insurance

 We have a house 30 minutes from Cordoba and although presently have house insurance with MAPFE i am concerned that the rebuilding costs are quite possibly under what we should be paying for. How can I find out what the rebuiding cost of the house would be? Does anybody have experience of getting an appraisal from a Spanish insurance company. Do  the Spanish insurance companies offer this service and if so how reliable is it? Does anybody know the best way to go about this? Recently had to put in a claim for water damage and the insurance company was able to wriggle out of paying up (Nothing unusual there I suppose) so want to make sure I am paid up should the unthinkable happen.

Although I am not in the Cordoba area I understand that most if not all insurers use a €/sqm formula for rebuilding costs. This may vary according to the town concerned, but here I am quoted €1000 per Square Metre for indoor areas. This is then used to calculate their premium. External areas and garages etc are charged at 50% of the sqm rate.

then add on 25%  , in case the unthinkable happens, for demolition costs.

We have house and car insurance with Mapfre and can only speak well of them. We suffered water damage from 2 burst pipes under the kitchen and bathroom floors, floors that had been laid 30 years ago, they dealt with it perfectly. Had we not had spare floor tiles they would have put in complete new floors in both the kitchen and the bathroom. We did find them evasive on the nationwide telephone number that they have but in the local office they couldn't have been more helpful.

I would have thought that a visit to their local office would supply you with the information you need. What happens here is that they send someone to the local office from Marbella, 40 km away to answer questions of that nature on 1 or 2 days a week which is perfectly acceptable. Here, also, they speak English if you need it, where you are, inland, may be more difficult. If they don't, best to drag a Spanish friend along with you.

So far as your claim was concerned, if you seriously believe they should have paid out then you should challenge their decision, you have an absolute right to do that.
