Am I correct in thinking that Spanish tv is now all digital & that if I can watch it I must have the correct arial?

Yes, it is all digital and has been for a few years. Just like UK, it depends on the signal strength. You may receive the channels with an older aerial but a digital aerial upgrade may be necessary. If you live on a community, they should have upgraded the communal aerial.

I have cable but I tried the Spanish Digital channels with a wire coat hanger. Got good reception with several stations.

I did say "I (we) have cable (Radio and TV)
It was my husband who was checking it was just checking it out when there seemed to be a problem with both our TVs. ( I think it turned out to be a faulty with the cable supplier). But the point I was making was, that the reception was perfect, so had we need Spanish TV, yet another aerial on the roof would not have been needed
