Broadband stick
The Comments |
Hi
Can anyone recommend a good broadband stick/provider in Spain? I'm not sure how such a thing works, we would be looking at something that works for four weeks or so. We usually go to a place with wifi but want to try something else this year and be more flexible.
Thanks

Hi
It works exactly as a mobile phone would, and has a sim card inside. For this reason you need to find out which provider has the best coverage and signal strengh in the area that you are going to visit first. If there is a Phonehouse shop in the area, they offer reasonably impartical advice and stock products of all providors.
Here on the Costa del Sol we are enjoying fast 4G connections in many areas.

You might also like to check out a Tuenti.com sim card as their rates are more competitive than those mentioned and can be used for phone calls. If you put the sim card in a phone you can tether a laptop or tablet or up to five other devices to it.

Thanks.
I have a good idea now. If I understand it correctly I need a broadband sim card and then I have to insert it in to a Dongle or a phone. Should be doable.
Once again, much obliged!

As my uk phone was sim locked and I didn't want to unlock it and I still wanted people to be able to contact me from the UK on it I bought a Samsung tablet in the UK which took a sim card and was unlocked and put a Tuenti sim card in that. It is also one of the few tablets which can be used as a phone. If people are visitng me they tether their devices to mine and use them for VOIP calls as well.
1GB might not sound very much compared to what you use at home but I find for looking at emails and news sites this is sufficient for me for a month. Obviously gaming and downloading can soon swallow this allowance. I also tell anybody who tethers onto my tablet to switch off automatic updating on their device as their device thinks it is connected to a router and although they may have it not to update when on mobile it updates when tethered to you and if it is a laptop one update can easily see your allowance gone.
Depending on your needs you could also consider a dual sim phone if you want the use of a UK and Spanish sim.
