Hi Everyone

We are planning driving to Spain, does anyone have a rough idea on the toll costs involved, from Caen in France -  Murcia Spain, any information and tips would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Steve

If you go to viamichelin.com you can enter your start and finish points. It will give you estimated fuel costs, journey time and toll costs as well as the best route.

hi Mariedav,

we drove down last year from edinburgh  and used our sat nav with the route options set to avoid toll roads  it will add about 80 miles to your overall journey but will save you about 100e in toll charges

if you dont have sat nav use www.theaa.com for directions

I have not driven the route for many years but when I did, I never used the toll roads except to cross the border France/Spain.  The roads in France were always fast. Also one had more choice  for stops, sandwiches, coffee,  fuel,  etc. and  did not need to endure motorway food and pay the inflated prices.

I use a similar route twice a year and it depends how much time you have available. The OP requested motorway tolls and my post of these cost are for the quickest available route. Meandering on French national roads is time consuming and frustrating passing through endless villages, traffic lights, roundabouts and obligatory stops at crossings.

If your time is limited it's never worth it.

Micky as I said it was some years ago. I used to average just under 60 mph for the just under 1200 miles, which I did in 20 hours actual driving.  I never exceeded the speed limits. Of course there may be more traffic these days.

Micky,  as I said it was some years ago.

I used to average just under 60 mph for the just under 1200 miles, which I did in 20 hours actual driving (a few times in 24 hours on the road, i.e. 4 hours for stops for a snack and petrol, but I realise that is not wise and would not recommend it, nor do it now myself, as I am that much older).  I never exceeded the speed limits.

Of course there may be more traffic these days, and Micky, you have more recent knowledge of conditions although if you only use the toll roads may not know about the reality of the alternative

PS   I stopped using my car when I calculated that driving back for under 6 weeks was more expensive that flying and hiring for that period of visit.
