Helping with cost of living idea
The Comments |
I'm non resident, but spend about 4 months a year at my Spanish villa. It's quite large and I'm thinking that whilst I'm in Spain, I could offer Bed&Breakfast to a family. It would help with my living expenses and give me a bit of company when I'm over there.
What would I need to know as regards tax on the income which I've speculated could be around 5000 Euros annually.
Thanks

I don't know but i bet there's a lot more to it than you think, tax and bureaucracy wise!

Depending on the area it could be a case of loads of inspections, fire and electricity certificates, safety certificates and so on.
In the Valencia region, you don't need to declare yourself self employed (if it's also your home) but you would need to pay full rate income tax on proceeds. You could also say goodbye to long lie-ins in the morning as you'd be up cooking the breakfasts and then doing the cleaning when the guests have gone out.
If you Google b&b Spain there are loads of sites with advice on the benefits and pitfalls. Most seem to suggest it is a full time job.
