During a recent discussion over a beer or three the subject of Spanish NI contributions was being discussed and the following point was raised. ‘Do individuals of a pensionable age have to make contributions if they go back to, or continue to work’?
One school said that no payments had to be made as there would be no benefit and that as a person was in receipt of a state pension he/she would already have paid in their whack.
The other thoughts were that a pensionista would still have to pay full rate contributions if employed or was autonomo, working full or part time.
A third view from a Spanish colleague said that it didn’t matter anyway as many people who were engaged in low paid jobs had to continue working for life as the pensions don’t pay enough and they just wouldn’t bother to declare anything they earned.
Does anyone know the true position in relation to OAP’s working and paying their government contributions?
