Spanish Bank Account Updates

My daughter who lives in Spain has told me that the banks are updating the identification of account holders to allow bank accounts to become digital. Apparently, the banks need to update account holders identification by 30 April or the rumour is that the bank may freeze the account.
I was visiting Spain and actually called into Bankinter on Friday 24 April. I presented my passport in order to make a withdrawal of cash. The cashier did not appear to take a photocopy of my passport or inform me of the need to update identification.
Can anybody help to clarify this?
