As we passed a convoy of unlettered shiny road tankers on the A7 yesterday, my wife asked a question and, as I could not answer it, I thought I would run it past our esteemed EOS colleagues.
The UK has millions of acres of lush green grass, grazed by millions of cows, yet a large percentage of the milk consumed there is imported from elsewhere in Europe.
Where does the bulk of the milk consumed in Spain come from? It can't be from the very fwe cows you see here?

From the EU Milk Lake District. In the valleys of the EU Butter Mountain Region.

Much of the milk we consume in Spain comes from The North, mainly the regions of Asturias and Cantabria. If you go there (and you should, it's beautiful) you'll see many cows grazing in the fields.
One thing I don't understand is why the Spanish continue to drink UHT milk despite everybody owning a fridge these days. You'd think the Spanish of all people would understand that fresh is better.

Thanks for the info, peeps - another mystery solved!
I fully agree, Fh - can't be doing with UHT myself, either.
Team GB - you forgot about HiperBer and Consum!

Why does the milk in Spain, long life and fresh taste sweeter than Scottish milk??

Life in general is sweeter in Spain than in Scotland?
Seriously, tho, it may be due to the fact that a lot of Scottish pasture land is tainted by the droppings of the endemic wild haggis, which have multiplied since the ban on haggis hunting which was imposed in the eighties.

it's not sweeter....its got a stronger taste like goats milk. Mercadonna is stronger than Eroski milk. Also it's creamier, even the semi leche
