The Canaries are a lot warmer than Spain at Christmas.

On the Costa Calida we have had 20 degrees at Christmas, but this is between 12 and 2pm. In the mornings and at night it can be lower than 7 degrees.

In Tenerife for example the daytime temperature may be around 20, but doesn't drop much below 14 at night. Hope this helps.

When we stayed on the Costa Blanca over Christmas, although we did get some sunshine outside during the day, it was cold at night and always cold in our villa which had a very poor gas fire for heating.  The problem was, like many Spanish villas, the stairs went up from the lounge/dining/kitchen area creating a great opening for all the heat downstairs to rise upstairs!  We are thinking of trying Almeria next Christmas for at least 4 weeks because we've read that it's warmer there in the winter months.  Is this correct?

If it's cold down the stairs, stick a curtain over the top to stop the chill bit coming down. Works a treat.

The beach at Almeria in January this year.

Most Christmases are fine but this year was a bit of an aberration. Rainy before, nice and warm over the Christmas period but then rainy and one day of snow afterwards. Christmas Eve through to the 27th we were sunning ourselves on the beach at Benidorm.

Then again, it got to 30c here at the beginning of March and dropped to 14C the very next day. Who can tell?

I take it you are a talking about a holiday over Christmas if that is so .....Then book a all inclusive hotel on one of the islands as most businesses close for the Winter due to a lack of customers ...or better still go on a cruise around the Med I own a villa on mainland Spain and thats what I am going to do.wink
