just moved to Galicia in time to get residency before Brexit kicks in
currently looking to buy a rural house in the Chantada area & in the meantime to rent for a couple of months so I can take my time; most internet sites have rentals at ridiculously high prices, if anyone has any good alternatives, let me know!

Rental prices are what they are .. for your chosen area..you said you managed to get residency before the Brexit kicked in ..so I take it you are renting at the moment or in the process of selling a property ..then moving to a rental whilst you find your new property.

Yes, rental prices are very high at the moment in Spain! Incredibly high and difficult!
