Oh dear, for the shoe lovers in EOS, sad news reported in THE COASTRIDER.
More shoe factories close
The closure of two more footwear manufacturers, one in Elda the other in
Petrer, has left 120 people unemployed. These most recent closures bring the total in the last month to five, leaving 250 people without work.
In Elda, the Grupo Ferrandiz shut down two of its three footwear operations.
The company was founded in 1988 and specialised in the manufacturing of clasps, decorations and metal adornments for shoes. In a recent attempt to diversify production and beat the industry crisis, the company began also making promotion items and giftware.
Workers in the Petrer factory were given their notice the evening they were due to set off on their summer holidays. The Petrer factory had been in operation since the late 70s and made ladies leather shoes.
