Hello to members of eye on spain, myself and my partner completed on our new build last March, it is in a little village near Orihuela, we are very pleased with it and the spanish neighbours have been most welcoming, inviting us into their homes for meals. (The British ones arnt too bad either)we have made new friends and have found most people very helpful. We are looking forward to eventually moving there early next year (retirement) at the moment we are enjoying holidays and learning about the area.

Glad to hear that.

Sounds like a good place to be as everyone is so helpful.

Did you find the area by chance and do you speak Spanish?

So many questions, LOL.

Hope you have a good retirement out there, sounds like you will if the past nine months are anything to go by.

Hi there, I wish I could say we did loads of homework to find the right place but to be honest we have been just plain and simply lucky, without realising it we have chosen a very conveient and friendly place to be. It is convenient to reach so many places, we are doing a lot of sight seeing at the moment as before we bought in Spain we had not had many holidays there, only twice, once in Mojacar and once in Costa Del Sol.

Do we speak Spanish? when we leave home we think we are not doing too bad, but when we get there, we realise we have a long long way to go. We really do want to be able to converse with the residents.

If anyone knows can suggest places of interest and any nice dishes (Tapas) we would be appreciative.

Regards

Diane and Stan

Hi Di & Stan

Good to hear you are going to live your dream. My wife and I are hoping to do this later this year but maybe we wil take a  holiday there first to ge ta feel of things.I see some really nice value for money properties are available inland but we are a bit concerned they might be a bit quiet for us.We are quite "mixers" but enjoy dancing and a bit of night life.We are both retired.

I would be interested to hear anyones experiences of living "Inland "

Acapulco

Hi Diane & Stan

Great that you did little homework & fell on your feet. Sounds idyllic.

We are able (in future) to spend more time at our villa in Spain after early March when my OH retires so we shall have to jump in the car & nip off exploring places such as we're hearing about on the forum.

I've got your area. look.

Hi Acapulco, I live in same village as stan and diane and while it is very nice there we sort of wish that we had moved to somewhere a bit more lively and nearer the beach as it would be nice to be within walking distance of lively bars and restaurants without  one of us not having a drink. So if you are outgoing people i wouldnt really suggest inland. Personally i love Quesada and Benimar.

Quesada & Benimar are quite well known to us as we have friends on Benimar 1 & friends (who have just sold up & returned to the UK ) lived on Benimar 2. We are just a few minutes from Quesada ourselves. Depends on what you want ,doesn't it, & if you have much Spanish under your belt.

We can get by with the little spanish we have learnt ( still learning though ), but our village is nice and friendly and the school is fantastic which is what we took into consideration when we moved here. We could maybe move somewhere lively later on IF we still feel like it.

Hi there Acapulco,

the village has 4 little bars, couple of shops, a little supermarket,2 banks, no dancing though! we have found at the moment we are happy with the local bars and socialising at home, it only costs 6 euros to go to Orihuela by taxi, I am sure there will be plenty to do there, but as yet we have not ventured there in an evening. As Mervy says, we are not that near to any beaches but we can reach several within half an hour, what I really like about the area in the Mountains, I thought I wanted to be near the sea, but I now know its the mountain ranges that draws me, something different to look at throughout the day, they never look the same for more than a few minutes. Early days yet, but as the moment we are really pleased with it all, especially the good good friends we have made,

Regards

Stan and Diane

Hi Pat, yes I agree the sunsets are really something else, I near tirer watching them, its all so peaceful, such a calming influence. Have you no inclination to live in Spain,  we have 7 grandchildren and 1 more on the way, 2 lof them ive in France so we cannot see them as regularly as the others, not sure how I will cope not having them nearby, but we are hoping we will have plenty of visits.

It took me ages to find the map then to put the "HOT" on it to show where Hurchillo is. Please someone say they saw it.

Yes did see it More well done not to far from us although have never been their.  So many places to see must do some of that next time. Get my head round driving.    I do not think we will move permantly Diane, we try and spend 2 or 3 months at a time which I really chill out.   But we have 10 grandchildren plus 3 great grandchildren not that we see a lot of the older ones, but I do see my daughters a lot and I think I would miss that if I am honest with myself.  I make Roy the excuse about getting medication but it's not all one sided.    It is just the cost of running 2 places especially in this country when everything is going up so much. I find it so much cheaper in Spain.  Anyway good luck hope everything goes well for you.  We are out in March hopefully to June.  Take Care Pat

thanks for the replies folks, looks like we ought to be thinking within 15 minutes of one of the coastal places.
